Random Cincinnati Reds Thoughts

Edinson Volquez has been cleared to start throwing again. He will have to start over as far as the program is concerned, and will be watched closely by team medical director Dr. Timothy Kremchek. Volquez, who is 4-2 with a 4.35 ERA, will long toss on Friday. He is not expected back until at least after the All-Star break.

Edwin Encarnacion was given a day off yesterday during his rehabilitation assignment with Triple-A Louisville. The Bats have an off day today, making it two days in a row that Encarnacion will not play. His rehab stint, which by rule is limited to 20 days, will be up on July 10. He is eligible to come off of the disabled list, but is not expected to do so before the end of the current homestand.

From the Reds Twitter: Wilkin Castillo had surgery to repair the torn labrum in his right shoulder.  He is expected to recover fully by spring training.

Last night marked Joey Votto's first appearance at Great American Ball Park since returning from the disabled list. It was his first appearance in front of the home fans since courageously revealing the personal struggles he has been dealing with.

Apparently, there wasn't much of a welcome back. He just received polite applause when he came to bat. Reds fans dropped the ball on this one. Votto is the leader and best player on this team and publicly revealed some very personal feelings. He deserved a standing ovation. He got the same reaction as a mediocre golfer sinking a par putt on the 10th green.
