Yankees Call Up 6'7" Prospect 📈
In what turned out to be a thriller on Wednesday night, the Cubs had a 3-0 lead with lefty Rich Hill carrying a two-hitter into the sixth.
The Rockies, however, rallied for two runs before shortstop Troy Tulowitzki, who was benched the night before, cracked a dramatic three-run dinger off reliever Jon Leiber to give Colorado a 5-3 advantage.
It was a big hit for Tulowitzki, was broke out of a 1-for-19 funk.
The Cubs pulled to within a run before Aramis Ramirez hit an apparent game-winning, two-run shot on a slider off Rockies closer Manny Corpas with one out in the top of the ninth inning.
Incredibly, it was Corpas' fourth blown save in eight opportunities this season, a year after he blew just one out of 20 chances.
The Rockies seemed to be dead when Cubs closer Kerry Wood struck out Tulowitzki and Yorvit Torrealba to start the last of the ninth.
But the Rockies wouldn't go down without a fight either, and the unthinkable happened. With two outs and none on, Scott Podsednik singled, and Ryan Spilborghs promptly tripled off Wood to drive home Podsednik with the tying run.
Ryan Theriot finally gave the Cubs the lead back with an RBI single in the tenth, and Carlos Marmol closed things out in the bottom half without any incident.
With the victory, Chicago improved to 10,000-9,465 in franchise history, and joined the Giants (10,192) as the only clubs in baseball history to amass the 10K club.
Congratulations, Chicago Cubs. 10,000 wins is a great achievement.
Will many more victories come this summer as the Cubs look for their first World Series title in 100 years?
We'll have to see.
For now, congrats on the milestone.
