Missy Franklin Sets Record With Sixth World Gold

Just as she did last summer in London, American teenage swimming sensation Missy Franklin won gold in the 100-meter backstroke in Barcelona, beating out Australia's Emily Seebohm and Aya Terakawa of Japan, per Alan Abrahamson on Twitter:

Franklin recently turned 18 this past May, but she already has five Olympic medals, including four golds.

She won the gold medal in the 200-meter backstroke at the 2011 World Championships in Shanghai as a 16-year-old. Franklin will look to repeat in that event this summer. She is the current world-record holder in the 200-meter backstroke after posting a time of 2:04.06 at last summer's Olympic Games.

Her gold as part of the United States' 4x100m medley Sunday gave her a record six in the World Championships. On her Twitter account the transcendent young star was beaming with pride:

Franklin won individual championships in the 200m freestyle, 100m backstroke and two other relay events.

Katie Ledecky Crushes the World Record in 1500-Meter Freestyle

Another remarkable American teenager, Katie Ledecky shattered the world record en route to winning gold in the women's 1500-meter freestyle, per Ken Fang on Twitter:

Ledecky finished in a time of 15:36.53, more than six seconds better than the previous world record, which was 15:42.54, held by American Kate Ziegler. Ziegler recorded that time back in 2007.

The 16-year-old Ledecky first burst onto the scene in London a year ago, winning gold in the 800-meter freestyle at the age of 15. The Washington, D.C., native, who also won the 400-meter freestyle at this year's World Championships, will be the overwhelming favorite to win the women's 800-meter freestyle this coming weekend.

Conor Dwyer Has Strong Showing in Men's 200-Meter Freestyle

Conor Dwyer wasn't able to chase down France's Yannick Agnel in the men's 200-meter freestyle in Barcelona, but the 24-year-old turned out an impressive effort nonetheless, snagging silver after finishing in a time of 1:45.32, per Universal Sports on Twitter:

As the above tweet points out, Ryan Lochte missed out on the podium after finishing in fourth place. Lochte did earn a silver with the U.S. men's 4x100-meter freestyle relay team that won silver on Saturday.

For those who aren't familiar with Dwyer, he was a key part of the U.S. men's team that won gold in the 4x200-meter freestyle relay in London last summer.
