Rob Van Dam Would Bring Fresh Air into the World Heavyweight Title Picture
Rob Van Dam still is basking in the afterglow of his triumphant return to WWE. Pretty soon, though, the novelty is going to wear off, and WWE will be faced with the dilemma of what to do with him.
Well, there is always the World Heavyweight Championship title picture. With Dolph Ziggler headed for a feud with Big E Langston and it being too early for a Damien Sandow cash-in, the only other alternative would be to rehash a previously boring feud for the already poorly booked Alberto Del Rio.
Enter Rob…Van…Dam.

The hardcore ECW legend would be a true breath of fresh air for the suddenly stale WHC title chase. His all-out, chance-taking style is the ideal complement for Del Rio, whose ring repertoire has an MMA feel to it with all the kicks and arm holds.
The clash of styles makes for an entertaining match.
Right now, Van Dam is probably second to Daniel Bryan in terms of crowd pops for babyfaces. The arenas go nuts when he heads to the ring. He uses every inch of the ring in his matches. His Five-Star Frog Splash is reminiscent of the great Eddie Guerrero.
And he did not come back to WWE just to finish out his career and put younger talent over. He has come back for another shot at WWE gold.
A rivalry with Van Dam also benefits Del Rio. It is no secret that the booking for his second go-round with the WHC title has not been the greatest, but then again, so was his first title run. He has run the gauntlet of top faces in WWE several times over, so placing him in a title program with Sheamus or even Christian has a seen-that-before feel about it.
Shucks, even Sandow comes out a winner with Van Dam in the title picture. I may be getting ahead of myself, but if RVD were to beat Del Rio for the belt, then Sandow has that major league babyface champion on whom he could swoop down, cash in his Money in the Bank contract and take the world title.
Right now, however, we have to get RVD and ADR in the ring before we start talking about titles changing hands. And it looks like we are going to get just that, because they are scheduled to face each other on this week’s SmackDown in a non-title match.
If they put on the type of match I expect these two seasoned pros to do, then it could be the precursor to a great—and highly energetic—feud over the title.
