WWE Money in the Bank 2013: Rob Van Dam and Sunday's Best Crowd Reactions

Donald WoodJul 16, 2013

WWE’s Money in the Bank 2013 was one of the best pay-per-views of the year and one of the best editions of the event in history, but it was the crowd in Philadelphia that helped make it so special.

All of the following crowd reactions blew the lid off the Wells Fargo Center and helped catapult this PPV into the instant-classic echelon.

Rob Van Dam is one of the most recognizable faces in the history of the wrestling business, and his return to the WWE at Money in the Bank in Philadelphia forced the crowd into a frenzy.

Van Dam was an ECW original that had some of his most memorable moments in a bingo hall in South Philadelphia. While the ECW Arena may have closed its doors, RVD brought the hardcore to the WWE Sunday and had the fans eating out of the palm of his hand.

While it will be hard for the veteran to meet the expectations of that kind of reaction in every city he arrives in, the City of Brotherly Love set the precedent for how the WWE Universe should react to the legend every time he hits the ring.

Dolph Ziggler

There are few crowds in the world that would’ve known to cheer Dolph Ziggler the way Philadelphia did, but with a boisterous fanbase behind him, The Showoff was given the warm reception he deserves.

Defending world champion Alberto Del Rio is a natural heel that the crowd completely turned against. With Ziggler being a favorite of the smart wrestling fans, the final transformation into a face was complete when the crowd attacked AJ Lee for costing the challenger his title shot.

The hope now is that the casual fans will see the reaction that Ziggler got Sunday and Monday and realize that they must support the newly face star in order to keep him at the main-event level.

Mark Henry

Every heel that goes against John Cena is automatically cheered by many fans in the WWE Universe, but the support of Mark Henry in his quest for the WWE Championship at Money in the Bank was through the roof.

While there were a few fans that hated Henry, even many of the Cena supporters were giving the 17-year WWE veteran the respect he deserves. Henry has earned the respect of the WWE Universe over the last two years, and Philadelphia showed its appreciation.

The biggest disgrace of the night was Cena forcing the monster to tap out. While the CeNation was loud immediately, the anger setting in for even the most casual fans about the outcome of the match blossomed into boos and drowned out any other reaction.

Henry deserved better, and the crowd acknowledged that fact.
