AL Home Run Derby Team 2013: Breaking Down Each Contender in New York
The selections for the 2013 American League Home Run Derby team were announced on Monday, and there is plenty of firepower on the squad.
Chris Davis, baseball's leader in home runs, was an obvious selection, and a two-time winner of the competition should be up for the challenge. Robinson Cano, the AL captain this year, made the selections. Cano has yet to decide on the fourth and final member of the AL team.

Chris Davis, 1B, Baltimore Orioles
Chris Davis' selection was a no-brainer. The sixth-year pro has already matched his 2012 totals in home runs (33) and RBI (85) through 88 games. He's also hitting a career-high .320, as well as setting career highs in doubles (26), on-base percentage (.395), slugging percentage (.712) and WAR (4.3).
The 27-year-old ranks first in the American League in home runs, second in RBI, third in batting average, fourth in on-base percentage and first in slugging percentage. He's also posted the fifth-highest WAR among position players in the league.
Prince Fielder, 1B, Detroit Tigers
Prince Fielder, who has won the Home Run Derby as part of the National and American League team, is hitting .266 with 15 home runs and 66 RBI this season. His numbers may be down from last year, but anyone who knows about this guy's power and his history at the event knows that he's a legitimate threat to win the Derby crown.
Robinson Cano, 2B, New York Yankees
This year's team captain, Robinson Cano is batting .293 with 20 home runs, 58 RBI and a slugging percentage of .526.
The five-time All-Star, who won the Home Run Derby in 2011, ranks seventh in the the AL in home runs, eighth in RBI, eighth in slugging percentage and fourth in WAR among position players.
Projected Fourth Selection: Miguel Cabrera, 3B, Detroit Tigers
Surprise, surprise, Miguel Cabrera is having another outstanding season. The 2012 AL MVP and Triple Crown winner is batting .368 with 28 home runs, 90 RBI, an on-base percentage of .457 and a slugging percentage of .679.
The eight-time All-Star leads the league in average, RBI, on-base percentage and WAR, and he's second in home runs and slugging percentage.
