UFC 162: Most Impressive Performances in Las Vegas

Ryan RudnanskyJun 8, 2018

UFC 162 certainly delivered on Sunday in Las Vegas, as several fighters had spectacular performances.

Whether it was a fighter knocking out a long-time champion or a fighter who had fallen on troubled times rebounding in dramatic fashion, Saturday's showcase had it all.

Here's a look at the most impressive performances at UFC 162 in Las Vegas.

Chris Weidman

When you knock out a guy who has held the UFC middleweight title for 2,458 days, that not only qualifies as the most impressive performance of UFC 162; it qualifies as one of the most impressive in UFC history.

Anderson Silva was cocky from the start on Saturday, even after Chris Weidman scored an early takedown in the first round. Silva's taunting got the best of him in the second round, as Weidman connected with a left hook that sent the Brazilian sprawling to the mat.

Silva wasn't showing much respect to the challenger in Las Vegas. He shouted at Weidman and kept his hands at his waist for the vast majority of the fight. In the end, it ended up making him look like a fool.

According to Kevin Iole of Yahoo! Sports, Weidman said after the fight: "It pisses me off when someone does that to me, and I knew sooner or later, I'd get him."

Weidman is now 10-0 in his MMA career (6-0 UFC).

Mark Munoz

Mark Munoz showed where great heart and determination can take you on Saturday, scoring an epic victory via unanimous decision over Tim Boetsch.

After a year's absence from the Octagon that included weight gain and depression, Munoz roared back from his prior loss to Weidman to go on to a convincing victory over Boetsch on Saturday. His ground-and-pound game was excellent, and he showed that he can still be very dangerous in the UFC.

Munoz improved his MMA record to 13-3 (8-3 UFC) with the victory.

Frankie Edgar

Frankie Edgar was coming off three straight losses headed into Saturday's fight with Charles Oliveira, but the 31-year-old reminded us all why we love him against the talented youngster.

Through a combination of great footwork, combinations and takedowns, Edgar went on to win via unanimous decision, coming back from the relative dead to get back on top.

Edgar appeared to get stronger as the fight wore on, creating much of the danger for Oliveira in the third round. Oliveira was a tough fighter on Saturday who seemingly refused to allow a stoppage, but that didn't change the fact that Edgar appeared to outclass him. Edgar finished with ground-and-pound, which helped his case on the scorecards.

Edgar is back, and we couldn't be happier.
