UFC 162 Final Main Card Predictions

Riley KontekJun 6, 2018

Zero hour is upon us, my friends. Not far away from now, UFC 162 will be gracing television screens all over the world and entertain fans with some of the best mixed martial artists in the world.

Between Anderson Silva, Frankie Edgar and the other numerous fighters on the card, this is must-see TV due to the talent and potential for great fights. Former, current and future champions are littered all over the card in an attempt to bring the highest of quality to viewers.

With that, we give you the final main card predictions for UFC 162 just mere hours away from start time.

Mark Munoz vs. Tim Boetsch

1 of 5

In a middleweight clash, the busy scheduled Tim Boetsch welcomes back Mark Munoz after a long layoff due to injury. This may be the X-factor of the night.

Munoz has not performed since his brutal knockout loss to Chris Weidman. The injury layoff saw him inflate and deflate drastically, showing the effects of what can happen when not consistently in the gym.

That layoff and rust may effect Munoz, especially against a brute with a busy schedule like Boetsch. Despite a hiccup in his last outing against Costa Philippou, Boetsch was running through the middleweight division with wins over Yushin Okami and company.

Boetsch is a barbarian (pun intended) and will look to expose the rust of Munoz. He will take a late stoppage along the way to hop back into title contention.

Prediction: Boetsch def. Munoz via knockout

Cub Swanson vs. Dennis Siver

2 of 5

There are a lot of people that have jumped on the Cub Swanson war wagon due to his recent performances. That is justified, as he has been a tornado of destruction in his recent outings.

That being said, Dennis Siver's drop to 145 has revitalized his hopes at reaching gold. His complete-and-utter domination of Nam Phan was not only impressive, but a display of pure brutality.

Both men have a lot of momentum. So what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object?

Siver takes a decision with balanced attack, that's what happens.

Prediction: Siver def. Swanson via decision

Tim Kennedy vs. Roger Gracie

3 of 5

Gracie jiu-jitsu took the MMA world by storm when Royce Gracie dominated the early UFC days. However, nowadays, that singular skill set will not make you successful in a world where people are proficient in multiple disciplines of striking and grappling.

Roger Gracie may be the best submission grappler in the world, but his striking leaves something to be desired. He automatically is at a disadvantage when he enters the cage against anybody with stand-up experience and good takedown defense.

Kennedy is the stronger wrestler of the two. He is also the better striker. Gracie will not be able to get the former Green Beret down, as Kennedy grinds a decision.

Prediction: Kennedy def. Gracie via decision

Frankie Edgar vs. Charles Oliveira

4 of 5

A former world champion in Frankie Edgar takes on a young lion that is not ready for the title picture yet in Charles Oliveira. Not much needs to be said here.

Edgar looked very competitive against Jose Aldo in his last outing, something that Aldo's other opponents have failed to do. The former lightweight champion is in his natural weight class, which makes this even more toward his favor.

What Oliveira does have going is his length and jiu-jitsu. He needs to keep Edgar on the outside and eventually look to grapple with him.

Either way, it looks promising that Edgar puts his name back in the title picture.

Prediction: Edgar def. Oliveira via TKO

Anderson Silva vs. Chris Weidman

5 of 5

It has been a while since I have seen somebody with the confidence to fight Anderson Silva that Chris Weidman has. He has lacked intimidation and has thrived under the spotlight thus far.

I feel his wrestling and swagger are the key ingredients in what could be a huge upset for the middleweight title. Silva has shown that his counterwrestling is his biggest weakness, and Weidman will look to expose that further.

I feel a new champion is a brewing. Matt Serra shocked Georges St-Pierre for the title a few years ago, and his top student could follow his footsteps by upsetting the greatest mixed martial artist of all-time.

Prediction: Weidman def. Silva via decision
