Liverpool Transfer Rumours: Latest Roundup of Players Connected to Anfield Move

Ethan GrantJun 6, 2018

After finishing seventh in the Premier League table last season, Liverpool and manager Brendan Rodgers are looking to pick up the slack from missing out on a Champions League berth by stacking up on talent during the summer window.

So far, it's been more rumours than activity for the Reds with respect to adding—or the possibility of losing—talent at Anfield moving forward.

With international competition in full swing, though, and the 2013-14 EPL season inching closer by the day, the Reds are going to have to start making moves soon.

We've got the roundup of some of those proposed moves here, as the action is really starting to heat up with respect to English football's annual moving process. To keep up with the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea, Liverpool need to make a splash and give Rodgers some fresh blood moving forward.

Robben for Suarez Floating Around

Rumours swirling around the Reds' best player have been rampant after a rough season with the English media, and Luis Suarez is one of only a handful of top scorers in the world who is being floated in transfer chatter despite having a huge season for his club.

With over 30 goals over the course of 54 games for the Reds last season, Suarez again established himself as one of the best strikers in Europe at the ripe age of 26.

Admitting earlier this summer that it would be hard to say no to a transfer to Real Madrid if Los Blancos came knocking, according to an interview hosted by Uruguayan radio station 890 Sport (via The Guardian ). Suarez fueled transfer rumours by blaming the English media for being too hard on him in the wake of his on-pitch behavior.

An interesting rumour about a move to Germany might spark interest from fans and both squads included in the story alike.

According to Colin Trott of The Sun, Bundesliga and Champions League winners Bayern Munich are interested in giving Suarez a fresh start with their club next year, and would even be willing to part ways with Arjen Robben in a player-for-player plus cash swap.

Suarez will serve the remainder of his 10-match ban for biting Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic late in the season, and a move to Bayern would give him a chance to return to European competition in the highest league while getting a fresh start with the current German champs.

It's unclear if that prize would entice Liverpool to part ways with a striker who is one of the premier players in Europe, but his discomfort at Anfield and antics on the pitch might be enough to justify a potential swap for one of Bayern's key pieces and a large fee.

Robben was mentioned as a Liverpool target before signing a contract extension with Munich before the 2012-13 season began according to Mirror Football.

Reds Holding Off Interest for Daniel Agger

Monaco have been one of the world's most eager teams during the current transfer window, and a new target of their affections is Reds defenseman Daniel Agger.

Agger, who signed a four-year extension with his current side in October, is drawing interest from the Ligue 1 club after the signings of noted names Radamel Falcao, João Moutinho, James Rodríguez and Ricardo Carvalho have already been made official.

The report comes from Andy Hunter of The Guardian, who noted that a French report linked the Dutchman with a four-year deal to join up with Monaco next season. However, Liverpool is apparently confident they can keep his favor enough to avoid losing a key cog in the backfield next year.

The futures of Martin Skrtel and Sebastián Coates are both in doubt, and Rodgers counted on Agger in 51 matches last year—including 35 EPL clashes.

Losing his services would be a major hit to the defense, and would force Liverpool to be more aggressive in the transfer period with respect to finding some help in front of the net.

Other Rumours

Liverpool loaned Andy Carroll to West Ham in the middle of the 2012-13 season, a move that allowed the striker to get some burn while continuing to make his £80,000-per-week salary.

While the Hammers are interested in bringing the loaned-out Carroll to their squad for good, the 24-year-old is seeking a raise of roughly £20,000-per-week to complete the otherwise amicable move between the Reds and the Hammers.

Dealing with an ankle injury, this ESPN FC report confirms that Carroll is seeking a raise when he returns to the lineup next year, and also that West Ham will seek some sort of compromise to keep his high demands in check.

Celta Vigo forward Iago Aspas is a wanted man if you read this report from Mirror Football's Ed Malyon, but the story also claims that the 25-year-old is interested in playing his home games at just one stadium next year—Anfield.

That may be the case, but interest is heating up if you pay attention to this quote from an anonymous source in the report:

"

Celta have more offers than just the one from Liverpool...There are offers from other Premier League sides, and from Italian and German teams that have qualified for the Champions League. They also have a very good offer from Benfica.

"

The report goes on to include a quote that says Aspas' top choice is still to join the Reds next season, and notes that Liverpool is also keen on adding another young star in the making—Henrikh Mkhitaryan—to the fold before the window closes.

Eliot Rothwell of Mirror Football had a profile of the latter on Wednesday, as rumours about a move to the EPL heat up.

We're far from being toward the close of rumours and action when it comes to Liverpool, the Premier League or the transfer period itself, and just as the sun will likely rise tomorrow, we'll likely see a new set of rumours before long.
