Shane Battier's Flop Opera Is a Beautiful Collection of Amazing Flops
Flopping is actually a beautiful, highly enjoyable art form that will dazzle the eye and move the human spirit. You just haven't been looking at it the right way.
The Basketball Jones' Trey Kerby (h/t For the Win) delivers a masterpiece in the form of this Flopera in the key of Shane Battier.
The reason behind such a gorgeous mash-up of flops from one specific NBA player? Well, Battier recently offered his thoughts on the recent scourge and the fines that are levied because of it—a topical opinion as LeBron James was just fined for flopping, via Brian Windhorst of ESPN.
You see, he doesn't think monikers like "flop artist" would ever curb the antics. He says it's all about the money, giving this unfortunate quote, via CBS Sports:
"Money. Money is always the [thing]. People say public scorn, the humilation [sic]. Guys could care less if they're publicly humiliated.
If they want to put an opera of all my charges on there or flops or whatever, go for it. You take $10 from me, and I'm upset. Money.
No one cares. In our society now, labels don't matter. They change every 10 minutes, so who cares? But money -- that hurts. I hate to sound like a capitalist, but that's much more effective than public humiliation.
"
Well, I am not sure what would exactly cause Battier to feel humiliation, but over two minutes of his greatest hits may certainly do the trick.
Again, fans are fighting a losing battle against NBA players who now have another trick up their sleeves. The deplorable gamesmanship that was once the isolated and laughable plight of world football has found a new home in every NBA arena.
Shame, money and operas; none of these will solve the problem, which is that flopping is now a major part of the sport—and it's not going anywhere.
