WWE Studios' Leprechaun Remake Gets Its Director
It looks like WWE Studios' much-talked about "Leprechaun" reboot is finally up and running, with young filmmaker Zach Lipovsky being appointed to direct the project.
Showbiz site The Wrap reported the news earlier today, noting that Lipovsky got his start in Hollywood after appearing on Steven Spielberg's short-lived Fox reality show "On the Lot," which saw aspiring young directors compete for a contract with DreamWorks.

As his IMDB profile notes, Lipovsky has directed various short films and worked extensively in the area of special affects.
His most high-profile gig to date was directing SyFy Original Movie Tasmanian Devils, which was broadcast at the start of the year.
(In fairness to Lipovsky, while the term "Syfy Original" doesn't inspire confidence, we all have to get our start somewhere.)
As Mike Johnson over at PWInsider mentioned, "Leprechaun: Origins" is currently scheduled for a March 2014 release.
Interestingly, WWE Studios President Michael Luisi told movie site JoBlo.com earlier this year that, rather than being a camp comedy like the original, "Leprechaun: Origins" was going for a much darker and scarier tone:
"The tone is going to be a little darker, a little more traditional horror than the Warwick Davis ones that people remember, trying to find a way to please fans of that genre but at the same time this is really being played for scares.
"
Of course, it remains to be seen how serious you can take a movie about a psychotic leprechaun, played by WWE comedy act Hornswoggle, hunting down and murdering people in pursuit of his pot of gold, but no doubt they'll give it their best go.
