Latest Update: Monday July 22
Lewandowski: "Astonished" at Dortmund Treatment
1 of 16Robert Lewandowski has confirmed that he will stay at Borussia Dortmund this summer but says he is "astonished" at the way he’s been treated by the Bundesliga club.
The 24-year-old appeared to be on his way out of the Westfalenstadion, with Bayern Munich tipped to be the most likely destination.
However, rumours of a move away from Dortmund were ruled out when the club insisted that Lewandowski must stay until his current contract runs out in 2014.
And the Poland international says that he has accepted Dortmund's decision, despite being "forced" to stay. He told Sport Bild (via Goal.com):
"In the second half of the season, I gave everything for Dortmund, as always. I played and scored, knowing that I would be allowed to leave.
I was certain I would be given the green light for a transfer.
Now all of the sudden everything is different. Unfortunately, I'm forced to stay. I'm astonished at how they're treating me.
I have to accept that I have to stay in Dortmund.
"
Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke responded by telling Bild (via Skysports.com): "It's great to hear that. Generally, we never had any doubts regarding the good character of Robert."

Bayern Munich Prepared to Wait for Lewandowski
2 of 16Bayern Munich chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has said that he is prepared to wait until 2014 to sign Robert Lewandowski.
Lewandowski has one year remaining on his current contract at Borussia Dortmund and will be allowed to leave the club for free if he stays until next summer.
Quoted in an interview given to German magazine SportBild, via the Mirror’s Jim Daly, Rummenigge said:
"We no longer want to talk about it this season but I expect Dortmund know what will happen next summer.
I get the feeling that (Dortmund general manager) Mr Watzke means what he says. He is bound to have considered very well his remark that Lewandowski has got to stay.
That is not how things work in the football world. We did not send a written offer, but there are reasons for that and that does not change anything.
We were prepared to sit down at a table with Dortmund.
"
This follows last week’s news from Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp, who admitted the club are resigned to losing their star striker next year.
Elsewhere, Dortmund’s Sven Bender insists that Lewandowski will be committed to the team this season, despite all the rumours about his future.
The midfielder was quoted in Chris Kvesa's article on Goal.com, as saying: "We have a superb team with a great atmosphere among the squad. Robbie is committed and gives everything. He's the same he has always been."
Meanwhile, Lewandowski has just been announced as one of 10 players shortlisted for UEFA’s Best Player in Europe award, as seen on UEFA.com
The other players to make the list are: Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, Lionel Messi, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Thomas Muller, Franck Ribery, Arjen Robben, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Robin van Persie.

Klopp: Lewandowski to Join Bayern Munich Next Summer
3 of 16Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp has put an end to rumours linking Robert Lewandowski with a move away from the club this summer.
It looked like the 24-year-old was being targeted by a host of Premier League clubs after a transfer to Bayern Munich had been ruled out.
But Klopp has admitted that Lewandowski will leave the Westfalenstadion this time next year.
According to an interview given to German newspaper Welt am Sonntag and quoted by John Drayton in the Daily Mail, he said:
"I think it is a known fact that Robert is going to play for Bayern after the upcoming season.
Now the only question is how to shape the time until then. That is our concern and it is our commitment to our fans and members to ensure that we will have a more competitive team in the upcoming season.
Up to a certain point we were with Robert's desire for change and were ready to talk. But nothing happened so we had to eventually say: [A sale] now no longer works for us.
And now we want to prove that, with a quality player like Robert, we can be successful in the coming year. Our results in the coming season is what we're all about. I know that Robert and I see it the same way.
"
Lewandowski reported to pre-season training with Dortmund this week. The striker joined up with the rest of the squad after an extended summer break, following last month's international duty with Poland.
Chelsea Trailing Lewandowski as Cavani Backup
4 of 16According to the Mirror’s Martin Lipton, Chelsea will try and sign Robert Lewandowski if they can’t land Edinson Cavani.
The Blues are one of many clubs that appear to be in hot pursuit of the Napoli striker, who has also been linked with Real Madrid, Manchester City and Manchester United.
The Uruguayan has a £53 million buy-out clause in his contract and Chelsea are thought to be considering a cash-plus-player offer with Fernando Torres as the makeweight in the deal.
However, if the move doesn't come off, Chelsea could focus their attentions on Lewandowski instead.
Lipton says that Jose Mourinho has identified Lewandowski as “the kind of player he could work with” and suggests that the Portuguese manager may let striker Demba Ba leave this summer in a club “shake up.”
Chelsea have been linked with Lewandowski before, as seen in this article by John Drayton in the Daily Mail.
The Mirror also reported last week that Manchester City were interested in bringing Lewandowski to the Etihad, following the departure of Carlos Tevez to Juventus.
The report, by David Anderson, also suggests that Manchester United have “gone cold” on Lewandowski since David Moyes became manager at the club.
Lewandowski Agents Criticized in Germany
5 of 16The German Football Agent Association (DFVV) has blasted Robert Lewandowski’s agents for the way they have handled their player’s transfer affairs.
Lewandowski will be out of contract in 2014 and has been continually linked with a move away from Borussia Dortmund, despite the club’s insistence that he is not for sale.
Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke was quoted in Germany's Suddeutsche Zeitung newspaper (via the Independent) last week, saying:
"Robert will definitely be playing for Borussia Dortmund next season. We need this security to be able to plan (for the season).
"
This came after agent Cezary Kucharski claimed last month that a deal to move Lewandowski to Bayern Munich was already done.
Fellow agent Maik Barthel also declared in May that a deal to an unnamed club had been agreed for the striker.
However, on Thursday, Head of the DFVV Gregor Reiter told German website Sport1 (via ESPNfc.com):
"For months they have been shouting Lewandowski’s name from the rooftop. This is not a manifestation of a serious business conduct.
Robert Lewandowski is under contract at Borussia Dortmund until June 30th, 2014.
More than once Borussia Dortmund have made it clear that they are not willing to release the player before the end of his contract. End of discussion.
"
Elsewhere, it seems that Lewandowski is still being linked with a move away from Dortmund.
Mark Ogden reported in the Telegraph last Friday that Manchester United are still keen on signing the 24-year-old, if they don’t manage to secure the services of Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid.
Lewandowski to the Premier League?
6 of 16News that Robert Lewandowski will not be joining Bayern Munich has increased speculation that he might make a move to the Premier League.
Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke said last week that Lewandowski would “definitely” not be making the switch to Bayern, as reported by John Drayton in the Daily Mail.
The Poland international has one year left on his current contract, which he could run down to join up with Bayern next summer but Chelsea might try to sign him now, say the Daily Mail.
Drayton added:
"The 24-year-old’s representatives have contacted Chelsea, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Barcelona as well as Bayern over a potential £25m move.
"
Whereas, in The Sun on Saturday, Martin Blackburn suggests that Manchester United and Manchester City are prepared to “do battle” to sign the striker.
According to The Sun article, Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has already been in touch with Lewandowski’s agents. There are also claims that United have had hardly any contact with the player’s representatives over the summer.
Elsewhere, in an article by the Independent’s Martin Hardy, it seems that Lewandowski will see out the final 12 months of his contract with Dortmund, where he will be free to join the club of his choice next summer.
Hardy says:
"Robert Lewandowski has been told he will not be allowed to leave Borussia Dortmund for either Bayern Munich or Manchester United this summer.
"
Stay tuned for developments as we get closer to the official opening of the transfer window on July 1.
Lewandowski Will Not Sign for Bayern Munich
7 of 16Robert Lewandowski will not be sold to Bayern Munich this summer, according to reports in the Daily Mail.
It was widely believed that the in-demand Borussia Dortmund striker would sign for the Champions League and Bundesliga winning side.
Lewandowski was quoted in Sport Bild (via espn.co.uk) last week, saying that he expected to join "the club of my choice."
But Dortmund have nixed the move—the club's sporting director Michael Zorc told German sports magazine Kicker (via SkySports.com) on Sunday:
"We have communicated to the player and his advisers that we will not agree to a transfer to FC Bayern this summer.
There will be with him now perhaps a small phase of disappointment.
But then he will deliver his usual performance, as does a professional with character... and Robert has a whole lot of character.
"
Elsewhere, in an interview in Bild (via the Guardian) on Monday, Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke said:
"The Bayern case is closed because there was no written offer. There were two phone calls in the past four weeks with Bayern. We told Bayern that due to stock exchange rules [Dortmund are a listed company] we need a written offer for Lewandowski. But until today, no offer has come in. If Robert wants to go to Munich he will have another chance next year.
"
Watzke's interview might put Premier League clubs on red alert, as he did not completely rule out a summer move for Lewandowski. He added:
"I am not saying he will definitely stay but he will certainly not be playing for Bayern in 2013. Everything else will be discussed with Robert and his advisers in the coming days. Our wish is for Robert to play for Borussia Dortmund next season.
"
Manchester United and Manchester City have been credited with interest in the 24-year-old, as reported in Rob Dawson’s article in the Manchester Evening News.
And Chelsea were also rumoured to be interested in the Poland international, according to the Daily Mail.
Lewandowski has a year remaining on his current contract and could face seeing out the next 12 months at the Westfalenstadion and moving to Bayern on a free transfer next summer.

Bayern Move: A Step Closer?
8 of 16Robert Lewandowski's rumoured move to Bayern Munich appears to have made progress.
The striker, who is on international duty with Poland this week, has reportedly confirmed his desire to leave Borussia Dortmund.
He was quoted in Sport Bild (via espn.co.uk) as saying:
"I'd like to think that now everything has been resolved and I will be able to join the club of my choice.
Dortmund is a fantastic club, which I will always admire. But for my future I am wishing for a new challenge.
"
The 24-year-old is yet to name Bayern Munich as his new club but comments made by his agent Cezary Kucharski last month suggested that a move to the Allianz Arena is imminent.
Lewandowski has also attracted interest from Manchester United and Real Madrid, as reported in the Telegraph, with Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal also credited with interest in the striker in the Daily Mail.
Lewandowski Rumours Rumble on
9 of 16Speculation surrounding Robert Lewandowski’s potential move to Bayern Munich has still not been resolved.
The Borussia Dortmund striker’s move to the Allianz Arena appeared to be nearing a conclusion last week when agent Cezary Kucharski suggested that his client had a deal in place.
On May 27, Kucharski told Polish TV station TVN24 (via Skysports.com):
"Yes. Robert will join Bayern this summer.
There is no point in pretending that he will not move to Bayern. Robert wants to leave and that is what will happen.
It is a matter of time. It could be a done deal within a week or within two to three weeks. We are waiting for a signal from the club. We are working on this deal.
"
However, on May 28, Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp counter-claimed that Bayern were yet to make an offer for the Poland international.
He told German newspaper Bild (via espn.co.uk):
"As of today, an official Bayern offer does not exist. I'd still like to think that Robert will play for us next season. We will see to it that we will put an end to the speculation over the next few days.
The funny thing is everybody's acting like it's all done. Jupp Heynckes says it, his agents say it - and we have no offer. What's that all about? How things are turning out now is not fair or nice.
"
The transfer rumours look set to continue on into the summer.
Lewandowski’s season is still underway, the 24-year-old will be lining up for Poland in an International Friendly v Liechtenstein on Tuesday and a World Cup qualifying match against Moldova on June 7.
Agent: Robert Lewandowski Will Join Bayern
10 of 16Robert Lewandowski’s agent appears to have confirmed that the striker will move to Champions League winners Bayern Munich.
On Monday Cezary Kucharski, who is one of Lewandowski's representatives, told Polish TV station TVN24 (via Skysports.com):
"Yes. Robert will join Bayern this summer.
There is no point in pretending that he will not move to Bayern. Robert wants to leave and that is what will happen.
It is a matter of time. It could be a done deal within a week or within two to three weeks. We are waiting for a signal from the club. We are working on this deal.
Robert needs a new challenge. He needs other people around him, a new coach and new motivation. For us it is clear, but we have not signed anything.
"
Borussia Dortmund were defeated 2-1 by Bayern in last Saturday’s Champions League final and finished 25 points behind their rivals in the Bundesliga this season.
Dortmund’s Mario Gotze, who has already agreed a €37 million deal to sign for Bayern, was watching the Wembley final from the stands.
After the game, departing Bayern coach Jupp Heynckes hinted that Lewandowski would soon be joining Gotze in a move to the Allianz Arena, according to the Guardian:
"We know Mario Gotze will be joining us and I don't think Lewandowski will be hanging about too much either.
"
The Polish international has scored 75 goals in 139 appearances for Dortmund, since signing for the club from Lech Poznan in 2010.
Klopp Insists Lewandowski Will Not Leave This Season
11 of 16Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp has insisted that Robert Lewandowski will not be leaving the club this summer.
In an interview Klopp gave to Polish newspaper Przeglad Sportowy (via Foxsports.com) this week, he appears to suggest that his in-demand striker plans to stay at Dortmund.
"There is no topic of Lewandowski's transfer right now. The rest of the team and I talk and think only about the final right now.
My conclusion is that Robert is not leaving Borussia, and he will play here for the next season and I will be able to use him.
"
Borussia Dortmund take on Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich in the 2012/13 Champions League final on Saturday May 25 at Wembley.
Lewandowski Focused on Borussia Dortmund
12 of 16Transfer speculation linking Lewandowski with a move away from Borussia Dortmund has been rife in recent weeks.
With the majority of stories suggesting an agreement has already been reached with rivals Bayern Munich.
But the latest news coming out of the Dortmund camp suggests that Lewandowski is yet to make a decision about his future.
He was quoted by Polish TV network TVN24 (via ESPN), as saying:
"There is only one thing on my mind right now. A transfer is not an issue for me right now. We will have to wait until the season is over. I think that everything will become clear then.
"
For their last game of the season, Jurgen Klopp’s side will face Bayern Munich in the Champions League final at Wembley on May 25.
Bayern Munich Deny Lewandowski Deal
13 of 16Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich released a statement on April 26, stating that a deal had not been struck to sign Lewandowski.
"In response to various reports regarding Robert Lewandowski, FC Bayern issues the following statement: contrary to these reports, FC Bayern has no contract with Robert Lewandowski.
"
This came after Enrique Reyes, agent to departing Bayern manager Jupp Heynckes, was quoted on the COPE radio network (via Goal.com) apparently confirming that Lewandowski had signed for the club:
"Bayern have signed Lewandowski. Yes, right now, they have Lewandowski and Gotze. The problem is that Bayern have a lot of money.
"
Bayern had already angered Dortmund in April, when news broke that they had signed Mario Gotze, after agreeing to meet the buy-out clause in his contract (The Telegraph).
A Deal Already in Place?
14 of 16The most recent quotes attributed to Lewandowski’s agent, Maik Barthel, suggest that a deal to an unnamed club has already been agreed for the striker.
He was quoted in Sports Bild on April 25 (via Skysports.com):
"We are in agreement with a club and have the right to change this summer. All the claims of Dortmund are met.
"
Lewandowski has a year remaining on his current contract, and Dortmund could face letting him leave for free were he to stay at the club until 2014.
According to Transfermarkt, the forward has been valued at just over £23 million. It’s unlikely Dortmund will miss out on the chance to cash in on him this summer.
Dortmund Want Lewandowski to Stay
15 of 16On April 24 Lewandowski scored four goals against Real Madrid in the Champions League.
After celebrating the win those at Dortmund commented, with hope, that their star striker would stay.
Chief Executive to the club Hans-Joachim Watzke was quoted on Skysports.com as saying:
"Robert has a contract until 2014 and there is no exit clause like with Mario Gotze.
It is our explicit wish to keep him until 2014. That is why we are saying no to a transfer fee. Up to now a lot of wishes have come true in my life.
"
Meanwhile, Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp reportedly told ZDF Television (via The Telegraph) that he was hopeful Lewandowski would stay.
No to New Dortmund Deal
16 of 16As Dortmund’s stock rises in the Champions League, so too does Robert Lewandowski.
His goalscoring prowess on the European stage has triggered rumours linking him to many clubs around Europe.
Manchester United are apparently interested in bringing him to the Premier League (The Mirror).
Overseas, Real Madrid are also rumoured to be tracking the Polish international (The Telegraph).
Lewandowski’s apparent reluctance to pen a new deal with Borussia Dortmund dates back as far as February, as reported by Sky Sports.
This has further increased speculation linking him with a move at the end of the season, according to Goal.com.
Mark Ogden wrote in The Telegraph on April 22:
"With just one year remaining on his Dortmund contract, Lewandowski has told the club he will not sign a new deal and the German outfit are understood to favour selling him to a foreign club rather than Bayern, their direct rivals.
"
Where Lewandowski will end up this summer is still to be decided, so keep checking back for updates.
