Stock Up, Stock Down for Orioles Top 10 Prospects for Week of May 13
While the Baltimore Orioles slumped last week, losing all five of their games at home to the Padres and the Rays, their minor league affiliates fared much better. Only the Delmarva Shorebirds of Single-A failed to have a winning week, as they went 3-4 in their seven games.
The Orioles' top prospects also had a very good week. While some sat out injured, the ones who played performed well for the most part.
Here's a more in-depth look at the performance of the Orioles' top 10 prospects last week.
Ranking based on MLB.com's ranking of Orioles' prospects.
10. Glynn Davis
1 of 10Team: Advanced-A Frederick
Position: OF
2013 Stats: .233 AVG, 2 HR, 19 RBI, 20 R
Last Week's Stats: 1 G, 2-3, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 BB
The 20-year-old Davis only managed to play one game last week, which is likely to due an injury, but he had been on the upswing.
Over his last 10 games, the outfielder was averaging .303, with eight RBI and 6 runs.
However, the Maryland native remains somewhat of a disappointment on the base paths. After stealing 37 in 47 attempts this year, Davis has only 6 stolen bases in 9 attempts this campaign. While that's not horrible, it's underwhelming compared to his two previous seasons.

9. Mike Wright
2 of 10Team: Double-A Bowie
Position: SP
2013 Stats: 5-0, 8 GS, 3.70 ERA, 1.35 WHIP, 38/13 K/BB
Last Week's Stats: 1 GS, W, 6.0 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 8 K
Mike Wright has been on fire as of late, winning each of his last five starts. In those five wins, Wright has a 2.17 ERA and has improved on each outing.
His only start last week was his best outing by far on the season. It was the first outing in which he didn't allow a run and and he also had eight strikeouts, a season high.
The 23-year-old's run has been impressive, but with the depth the Orioles have at pitching, Wright will remain in Bowie for the time being.
Stock: Up
8. Branden Kline
3 of 10Team: Single-A Delmarva
Position: SP
2013 Stats: 1-2, 7 GS, 5.86 ERA, 1.56 WHIP, 32/14 K/BB
Last Week's Stats: 1 GS, ND, 5.2 IP, 2 ER, 4 H, 1 BB, 13 K
Kline's season stats remain unimpressive, but his last start on Friday was anything but.
Thirteen strikeouts in 17 outs is impressive, regardless of what level of baseball it is. It's that kind of stuff that got Kline drafted out of Virginia in the second round of last year's draft.
The 20-year-old is known as a power pitcher and may be reverted to a reliever as he advances through the minors. However, if he continues to pitch like he did in his last outing, he'll keep getting starts.

7. Xavier Avery
4 of 10Team: Double-A Bowie
Position: OF
2013 Stats: .300 AVG, 1 HR, 12 RBI, 34 R
Last Week's Stats: 7-23, .304 AVG, 1 RBI, 5 R
Stuck in Double-A due to an influx of outfielders, Xavier Avery has been a very good leadoff man for the Baysox.
The 23-year-old has always been as a good pure athlete, capable of making the big leagues even with minimal offensive production, but he has been very good at the plate this season. Last week was no difference.
Avery's an injury away from being promoted to Triple-A or perhaps being called up by the O's given the right circumstance.
Stock: Even
6. L.J. Hoes
5 of 10Team: Triple-A Norfolk
Position: OF
2013 Stats: .308 AVG, 1 HR, 20 RBI, 24 R
Last Week's Stats: 9-23, .391 AVG, 2 RBI, 7 R
An injury to any of the three starting outfielders of the Orioles will likely result in the call-up of L.J. Hoes, who's been terrific this year in Triple-A.
Hoes doesn't have much power, but every other aspect of his game is solid, especially his ability to make contact. In 143 at-bats this year, Hoes has only 20 strikeouts and has walked just as many times.
The O's want the 23-year-old to get at-bats, so he'll only be called up before September if he can be assured some consistent playing time.

5. Nick Delmonico
6 of 10Team: Advanced-A Frederick
Position: 3B/1B
2013 Stats: .328 AVG, 4 HR, 15 RBI, 12 R
Last Week's Stats: 7-20, .350 AVG, 1 HR, 5 RBI, 4 R
After a stint on the disabled list, Delmonico hit a home run on his return to the Frederick Keys lineup last Sunday.
While he played just good in his first week back as he did prior to his injury, another injury has popped for the 20-year-old and caused him to leave Saturday's game early and miss Sunday's game.
"Keys 3B Nicky Delmonico has left tonight's game in the 4th inning with an apparent hamstring injury. Travis Adair replaced Delmonico at 3B.
— Frederick Keys (@FrederickKeys) May 18, 2013"
Delmonico is still a very good prospect, but staying healthy would be a plus. The Keys are off Monday, so hopefully another day's rest will be enough for Delmonico to avoid a second DL-stint.

4. Jonathan Schoop
7 of 10Team: Triple-A Norfolk
Position: 2B/SS/3B
2013 Stats: .268 AVG, 3 HR, 18 RBI, 12 R
Last Week's Stats: DNP
As Eduardo A. Encina of the Baltimore Sun reports, Jonathan Schoop was placed on the DL on Thursday and did not play at all last week due to a lower back strain.
It's a tough break for Schoop, who was having a very good month of May, averaging .348 with a couple of homers in 11 games.
While his stock gets a "down" grade because he didn't play, if Schoop continues to hit when he returns, a call-up to the majors could be oncoming.
Stock: Down
3. Eduardo Rodriguez
8 of 10Team: Advanced-A Frederick
Position: SP
2013 Stats: 4-2, 8 GS, 3.60 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, 42/14 K/BB
Last Week's Stats: 2 GS, 1-0, 14.0 IP, 4 ER, 11 H, 4 BB, 10 K
Rodriguez went seven innings in each of his starts last week, pitching well in both.
In his first start, the 20-year-old held the opposition scoreless, while picking up the win. In his second start on Sunday, he also pitched very well, but one bad inning cost him a win.
The lefty has been consistent this year, having only one start that would be considered bad. He's still got a long way to go to reach the majors, but the outlook on Rodriguez remains positive.
Stock: Up
2. Kevin Gausman
9 of 10Team: Double-A Bowie
Position: SP
2013 Stats: 2-4, 8 GS, 3.11 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, 49/5 K/BB
Last Week's Stats: 1 GS, W, 6.0 IP, 1 ER, 4 H, 1 BB, 10 K
It's been smooth sailing as of late for last year's fourth overall draft pick.
While his 2-4 record isn't much and a 3.11 ERA isn't unheard of, it's Gausman's secondary statistics that remain remarkable.
He struggled in two of his first three outings and his WHIP is still at a very low 1.06. His K/BB ratio is also nearly 10-to-1, and that includes a game where he walked three men.
Gausman's lone start last week was another good one, holding the opposition to one run, while adding to his ridiculous K/BB ratio.
With Dylan Bundy out injured and being that Gausman pitched in college, he could easily beat Bundy to the majors.
Stock: Up
1. Dylan Bundy
10 of 10Team: Double-A Bowie
Position: SP
2013 Stats: Unavailable
Last Week's Stats: Unavailable
No news on the Dylan Bundy-front.
The phenom remains sidelined after receiving a PRP injection about two weeks ago.
Depending on the scenario, Bundy could still see some time with the Orioles later in the season. However, health is still priority No. 1.
