Masters 2013 Odds: Previewing Under-the-Radar Contenders to Watch for at Augusta

Patrick ClarkeJun 1, 2018

Four-time Masters champion Tiger Woods is the odds-on favorite to win his fifth green jacket this April at Augusta National, but he's not the only contender fans should be locked in on this spring.

While golf is often dominated by big names like Tiger, Rory McIlroy and Phil Mickelson, the Masters has been dominated by first-time winners in recent years. So, will we have a first-time champion again in 2013?

Below we'll preview a trio of contenders flying under the radar heading into Thursday's first round.

Justin Rose, 18-1 Odds

English star Justin Rose has been playing great golf as of late and looks to be one of the biggest threats to win the green jacket this April.

The 32-year-old finished tied for eighth at last year's tournament, and tied for 11th in 2011. In 2013, Rose will enter Augusta National having earned three straight top-10 finishes, including a second-place finish at the Arnold Palmer Invitational last month—two strokes back of Tiger Woods.

Rose has yet to win a major tournament but has had success at all four, including the Masters, where he boasts two top-10 finishes since 2007.

Behind Tiger, McIlroy and Mickelson, Rose has the best odds to claim a green jacket this coming weekend.

Keegan Bradley, 25-1 Odds

After a disappointing but valuable effort at Augusta last year, 2011 PGA Championship winner Keegan Bradley looks poised for a strong finish at the 2013 Masters.

Bradley finished tied for 27th in his first appearance at the year's first major a season ago, but is coming off a third-place finish at the PGA Championship last summer. Plus, the 26-year-old American has recorded four consecutive top-10 finishes on the PGA Tour in 2013.

Bradley finished fourth at the Honda Classic, seventh at the WGC-Cadillac Championship at Doral, third at the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill and 10th at the Shell Houston Open on Easter Sunday.

He's yet to turn any of his impressive performances into a win, but if you're looking for an underrated contender with tons of momentum on his side, Keegan Bradley is your guy.

Matt Kuchar, 35-1 Odds

American Matt Kuchar posted his best career finish at the Masters a year ago, finishing tied for third in 2012.

The 34-year-old won the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship back in February and has been solid for the most part this season, recording two other top-10 finishes at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions and the Sony Open in Hawaii back in January.

An interesting fact about Kuchar: He attended college at Georgia Tech and should feel right at home at Augusta National this weekend.

After a 22nd-place finish at the Valero Texas Open in San Antonio this past weekend, look for a motivated Kuchar to get off to a hot start at the 2013 Masters. Last year, Kuchar opened with a one-under 71, but got better as the tournament wore on and shot seven under over the final three rounds.
