Pro Bowl: Broncos' Manning, Bailey, Beadles, Thomas, Dumervil Represent Denver

Jon HeathJun 5, 2018

In a game that saw NFC center Jeff Saturday snap to AFC quarterback Peyton Manning one final time despite playing for different teams, Manning and his teammates represented the Denver Broncos without making any huge splashes in the 2013 NFL Pro Bowl.

Starting the game as the AFC's quarterback, Manning went 6-of-12 for 43 yards and a score.  Playing in his 12th Pro Bowl (12 selections), Manning extended his All-Star game record for attempts (196), completions (115), yards (1,551) and touchdowns (15), according to Denver's PR guru, Patrick Smyth.

In all, eight Broncos were invited to the game, but three players (linebacker Von Miller, left tackle Ryan Clady and guard Chris Kuper) withdrew with injuries.  Denver's remaining five players had little impact on the game, as the NFC team won, 62-35.

Wide receiver Demaryius Thomas hauled in five passes for 52 yards, guard Zane Beadles played well, cornerback Champ Bailey recovered a fumble and notched five tackles and defensive end Elvis Dumervil went relatively unnoticed, totaling one tackle in a game where strong defensive play is discouraged and scoring is frequent.

The AFC team was coached by John Fox and the Broncos staff, as Denver was the highest AFC seed to lose in the divisional round of the playoffs.  Uncharacteristically, the AFC did not opt to kneel before halftime.

The Broncos, who went 13-3 in the regular season, will now focus on the upcoming NFL draft and free agency.  Denver is scheduled to select 28th overall next April.
