"For more than 50 years, New Yorkers have waited for this moment. Through near misses, heartbreak and a hope that every year could be our year, this city never stopped believing in the Knicks. And this team fulfilled that hope with grit, resilience and heart — just like the five boroughs itself," Mayor Mamdani said.

"New Yorkers have cheered for our team from packed living rooms in the Bronx to watch parties in Brooklyn, from bars in Queens to Staten Island to Manhattan, and Madison Square Garden itself. Now it's time for our city to celebrate together. Bing bong."

The Knicks won the 2026 NBA Finals in five games, capped off by a 94-90 victory over the San Antonio Spurs in Game 5 on Saturday night.

It marked New York's third championship in franchise history, with its previous wins coming in 1970 and 1973.

Josh Dubow of the Associated Press noted that the Knicks will have their first championship parade this year, as their previous titles were celebrated at Gracie Mansion and City Hall.

New York's NBA Finals triumph was a hard-fought battle, as none of its five games against San Antonio were decided by more than 10 points.

This included Game 5, as the Spurs held a 23-13 lead at the end of the first quarter and pushed their advantage to 16 points in the second.

San Antonio entered halftime with a five-point edge and stayed in front throughout the entire third quarter.

The Spurs were still up 81-71 with just under nine minutes remaining in the fourth, but the Knicks immediately responded with a 12-2 run to tie the score.

Both teams battled down the stretch of the game before New York's Jalen Brunson connected on a floater to put his team up by two points. The Knicks sealed the win with free throws, as the Spurs couldn't move back in front.

Brunson scored a game-high 45 points on 14-of-27 shooting and was presented with Finals MVP honors after the victory.
