WWE WrestleMania 29: Creating a Card to Reroute the Road to WrestleMania

Anthony RizzutiJan 13, 2013

According to numerous outlets including the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (via WrestlingInc.com), the WWE has set tentative plans for its four big matches at WrestleMania 29.

These bouts include The Rock vs. John Cena, The Undertaker vs. CM Punk, Triple H vs. Brock Lesnar and Sheamus vs. Randy Orton. All, needless to say, have not quite come over well among most of the Internet wrestling community. And rightfully so.

We've already laid witness to each of the aforementioned matches and pretty much cringe when bringing up the possibility of "Rock vs. Cena: Twice in a Lifetime."

So in an attempt to give us something fresh, here is how I would book WrestleMania 29.

WWE Championship: The Rock (c) vs. John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar

1 of 9

Want a big-time main event? Try this one on for size.

The prospect of throwing The Rock, Brock Lesnar and John Cena into the same ring could have Mr. McMahon, as well as the WWE Universe, absolutely salivating.

Think about it. It's the '99-'01 face golden boy vs. the '02-'04 golden boy vs. the '05-'13 (yeah, that long) golden boy. Three faces of the WWE from three different time periods could clash on the biggest stage for a monumental triple threat match.

We'll go with The Rock halting Punk's WWE title reign at Royal Rumble, Cena winning the Rumble match and Lesnar somehow forcing his way into the fold. The company has established Lesnar as a "do want I want" guy over the past year. So thrusting himself into this match should be no reach.

As far as booking the winner, I may have to lean towards Cena given the uncertainty of Rock and Brock's WWE futures. This could be Cena's career-defining victory and hopefully lead to an easier digression of his character in winding down his era of dominance.

The real winner, however, would be the WWE fan base. There's no doubt that this is a stronger alternative to the usual two or three matches that have been floating around the rumor mill. (Rock-Cena II, Rock-Brock and Rock-Cena-Punk)

Although triple threat matches are not the sexiest of 'Mania main events, this one has just about everything going for it. Three mega stars in one ring for one prize.

Instead of going with any of those, maybe it's time for Lesnar and Cena to go one-on-one-on-one with The Great One.

The Undertaker vs. CM Punk

2 of 9

If the reports are indeed true, then the WWE did not miss with this one. As one of the four rumored WrestleMania matches, Undertaker vs. CM Punk would be quite an interesting match.

To be fair, we have seen these two clash before. Taker and Punk did go head-to-head a few times from 2009 to 2010. But with the recent build of Punk into a major player, this feud can be reprised into something incredible.

Punk would have his long-lasting title reign finally stopped at the Rumble by The Rock. After separating himself from one historical feat, he would then turn his attention towards another-- Undertaker's WrestleMania streak.

Most likely through a number of in-ring promos, Punk would persistently challenge Taker to meet him at WrestleMania. Taker would of course accept and the feud would be on.

A wire-to-wire match with Taker would solidify Punk's standing in the company and give us something fresh from the Deadman for the first time in four WrestleMania events.

Undertaker would win and Punk would benefit from stepping inside the ropes with the most storied record in WWE history.

Triple H & Randy Orton vs. The Shield

3 of 9

Triple H has done an admirable job of backing the WWE's young and upcoming talent behind the scenes. So how about continuing that quest to inject the company with an infusion of youngsters in the ring?

The Shield has easily been one of the most memorable and well-developed stables in recent memory. Behind their oath to rid the industry of injustice, Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns have laid waste to anyone or anything in their way.

So what injustice would they be after with The Game?

After dropping his SummerSlam bout with Brock Lesnar, Triple H indicated that he was through with in-ring action. Well what if he got that itch back? What if he cut a promo claiming he had the urge to pad up one more time?

Displeased by Triple H's wishes for a return, The Shield would claim that it was time for him to stay away. Ambrose, Rollins and Reigns would bash Triple H, suggesting that he should stay away from the spotlight and give others a chance.

The talk would eventually form into a challenge by The Shield in which Triple H would accept. He would then recruit the help of Randy Orton, who was involved with the young trio late in 2012.

This match has the potential to be an entertaining one and would undoubtedly give Ambrose, Reigns and Rollins some rub.

The kicker here would be having Orton turn heel by laying out Triple H with an RKO, leaving him open for a Shield victory. Orton could grow tired of taking a backseat as a face and even cite his past differences with The Game as a reason for turning.

Takeaways From SNME 44 ➡️

World Heavyweight Championship: Dolph Ziggler (c) vs. Daniel Bryan

4 of 9

Yes, this one needs quite a bit of explanation. So let's start by fast forwarding to Elimination Chamber.

Despite owning the MITB briefcase and being apart of a tag team, both Dolph Ziggler and Daniel Bryan would be placed in the World Heavyweight Championship Elimination Chamber match. With six superstars in each chamber, there's no doubt that these two are one of the company's top 12 talents.

Other competitors would include champion Alberto Del Rio, Big Show, Ryback and Kane. When it's all said and done, Kane and Bryan, Team Hell No, would remain as the two lone superstars. (I would have Ziggler taken out early in the match.)

After some back and forth, Bryan would have Kane submit to the No Lock and become the new World Heavyweight Champion. Obviously not pleased with his partner, Kane would argue with Bryan and eventually lay him out with a chokeslam to effectively end Team Hell No.

Ziggler's music would then hit as he briskly walks down the ramp accompanied by AJ Lee, Big E Langston, a referee and his briefcase.

Dolph would then successfully cash in, becoming the second World Heavyweight Champion of the night. This would lead to Bryan using a rematch clause, setting us up for WrestleMania match.

Given the ability of both talents as well as Bryan's past relations with AJ, the all-around build of the feud should be an exciting one.

I would book this as the opener of WrestleMania to get us off to a hot start and have Ziggler win a very competitive match-up.

Tag Team Championships: Team Rhodes Scholars (c) vs. Rey Mysterio & Sin Cara

5 of 9

As I stated a slide earlier, I would have Team Rhodes Scholars capture the tag titles sometime before WrestleMania. Since I have Team Hell No dissolving at Elimination Chamber, Cody Rhodes and Damien Sandow would capture tag gold at Royal Rumble.

And since they're are the most uppity team in recent memory, the two would devise a tag tournament to see who is worthy enough to fight them at WrestleMania.

The winners of a potential tournament would be Rey Mysterio and Sin Cara. With the ridding of Team Hell No, Mysterio and Cara would serve as the next biggest face team. They would also put on a great show with both Rhodes and Sandow as evidenced by their prior match-ups.

Team Rhodes Scholars would come out on top.

Ryback vs. Big Show

6 of 9

Just as the Taker-Punk match, this one is not exactly an original idea. But allowing Ryback to have his WrestleMania moment by Shell-Shocking Big Show would be huge for his development.

Yes, it has been done before. John Cena did deliver an Attitude Adjustment, or at that time an F-U, to Show at WrestleMania XX. Cena's received some considerable pop from the Madison Square Garden crowd with the move and saw his career skyrocket shortly after.

The same could be done for Ryback here. Ryback's finisher, however, would be much more impressive since it entails marching around the ring opposed to just lifting Show as Cena did.

Anyway, the feud can begin at Elimination Chamber, Ryback could eliminate Big Show (without the use of the Shell-Shock, of course). This would then trigger Show to throw a post-eilimination beat-down on Ryback, leaving him vulnerable for a pin.

The two would meet at 'Mania where Ryback takes the win.

8-Man Money in the Bank Ladder Match

7 of 9

Despite having its own pay-per-view, the Money in the Bank ladder match should be brought back to WrestleMania. It always served as a nice jumping off point for superstars and never failed to give us one or two high spots.

And with so much outside talent (Rock, Lesnar, Triple H, Undertaker) being booked for the event, there's going to be a considerable amount of leftover superstars. Here's where you put them.

The contestants would include Alberto Del Rio, Antonio Cesaro, Justin Gabriel, Kane, Kofi Kingston, Sheamus, The Miz and Wade Barrett.

With the exception of Gabriel, the match could end up as the most star-studded Money in the Bank match ever. (Gabriel could serve as the new Shelton Benjamin and give us a memorable spot.)

I'll give the win to Wade Barrett as his main event heel push really cannot come any sooner.

Divas Championship: Eve (c) vs. Kaitlyn (with Charlie Sheen)

8 of 9

As far-fetched as it may seem, there is a possibility of Charlie Sheen appearing at WrestleMania 29. Alongside the growing legend herself Honey Boo Boo, Sheen was atop of the company's wish list for WrestleMania celebrities.

So let's just say they do end up inking a deal with the Anger Management star. If so, how would they use him? How about in a spot to revitalize some interest? Say...the Divas division?

Perhaps he could show up for a backstage segment with Kaitlyn, agreeing that Eve's title reign has been extremely unfair and fluky. Sheen would then suggest partnership of sorts to prepare Kaitlyn for a match with Eve.

At WrestleMania, Sheen could give a quick distraction to the Divas Champion with a leg grab. Kaitlyn would then deliver her finisher, whatever that is, to Eve and pick up the win.

Maybe Charlie is the person to get people in their seats and away from their bathroom breaks during women's segments.

After all, Sheen is a ladies man.
