St. Louis Rams Activate Center Scott Wells and More NFC West News

After a few early season setbacks, the St. Louis Rams offensive line is finally starting to take shape. Two weeks ago against the 49ers left tackle Rodger Saffold made his debut after missing five games with a knee injury. And now finally this week free-agent acquisition Scott Wells will make his first appearance since Week 1.

Great news considering the money they spent to get Wells, but bad news in terms of yanking Robert Turner out of the starting lineup. Right now Turner is playing the best football of his career and is easily the Rams' best offensive lineman through 11 weeks of the season.

His pass protection numbers are near flawless—he has only allowed a total of three quarterback pressures on the season. He surrendered one quarterback hurry Week 2 against the Redskins, one quarterback hit Week 8 against the Patriots and also one more hurry in that same game.

In the first 21 snaps Wells played Week 1, he had managed to allow quarterback Sam Bradford to get sacked—something Turner hasn't even managed to do so far this season. As Jim Harbaugh would say, do you go with the hot hand? Or do you insert your big money free-agent acquisition into the lineup?

Head coach Jeff Fisher has a tough decision to make based on Turner's play, yet it's pretty safe to say he will be in the starting lineup.

To make room for Wells, St. Louis released fullback Brit Miller. Miller has slowly lost value in Brian Schottenheimer's offense with the development of tight end Lance Kendricks. Kendricks' blocking ability out of the backfield has greatly improved, which made the fourth-year pro out of the University of Illinois expendable.
