Tennessee Titans vs. Seattle Seahawks: Titans' Biggest Winners and Losers

Benjamin MottJun 7, 2018

The Tennessee Titans opened up the preseason on Saturday night, battling the Seahawks in QB Matt Hasselbeck's return to Seattle.

The game ended with the Titans losing 27-17, and while the result of a preseason game doesn't decide whether or not your team is Super Bowl-ready, the individual performances of each player in each game is monitored by fans and analysts alike.

Here's a look at the individual winners and losers for the Titans.

Winners

HB/WR/Returner Darius Reynaud

The West Virginia product is still a long shot at making the roster, but after a 21-yard touchdown run, and an 85-yard punt return for a touchdown to tie the game up, he now adds pressure to Marc Mariani for the return-man spot.

WR Kendall Wright

The first-round draft pick caught all three of the passes he was targeted on for 48 yards. Although he didn't get a change to really prove himself as a deep threat, he'll get his chance later on in the preseason.

For now, he should be happy with his performance in his first game in the NFL.

QB Jake Locker

After Matt Hasselbeck faltered, Jake Locker had a respectable second quarter, throwing mostly out of the shotgun. He showed how deadly this offense can be, especially on the two-minute drill in which he took the Titans offense to the Seahawks' 14-yard line, all the while taking a lead in the Titans' quarterback battle.

DT Zach Clayton

Clayton got a sack in the second quarter, and was causing a raucous in the pass-rush department the whole game. The seventh-round pick from a season ago is starting to establish himself as a solid backup.

Losers

QB Matt Hasselbeck

The first interception wasn't his fault. It was a bad play by Nate Washington. The second one was just a forced pass which he ended up paying for. The second drive of the game really went nowhere, and the offense just did not click with the 37-year-old at the helm.

He will have to show up against Tampa Bay next week, whiling hoping Locker falters, in order to keep his starting job.

HB Chris Johnson

Many were saying that Johnson was back to his 2009 form, where he ran for over 2,000 rushing yards. However, against Seattle, Johnson looked like he was still stuck in his 2011 form, where he struggled all season.

Five carries for eight yards, and no catches and two drops on three targets isn't really what Tennessee had in mind for a resurgence.

CB Tommie Campbell

Campbell is vying for a spot as the Titans nickel cornerback, but after he got beat deep by Braylon Edwards for a touchdown, the feisty defender's stock is starting to fall.

DT Shaun Smith

He didn't get into the game until late, which is not a good sign at all for the veteran's future with the team. After a disappointing 2011 campaign, Smith may be looking for work this September.
