Tim Duncan: Spurs Will Reportedly Re-Sign Veteran Superstar to 3-Year Deal
Tim Duncan is among the most decorated players in NBA history, and he's done it all in a San Antonio Spurs uniform.
According to Johnny Ludden of Yahoo! Sports, R.C. Buford and the Spurs brass have decided to keep it that way:
"Tim Duncan will sign a three-year contract with the Spurs this week, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.
Duncan's representatives and the Spurs are finalizing a few items, but the structure has been agreed upon. The contract is expected to be in the range of the three-year, $34 million deal Kevin Garnett reached with the Boston Celtics the day before the NBA's free-agent market opened.
"
This new deal should come as no surprise. Duncan flirted with free agency once back in 2001, but he has never strayed from the San Antonio.
Duncan performed well enough last season to warrant a few more years. In his 15th NBA season, The Big Fundamental averaged 15.4 points and 9.0 rebounds. He isn't the player he once was, but his cerebral game still allows him to compete on a nightly basis.
Re-signing Duncan gives San Antonio another stacked team entering next season. Ludden mentions later in his report that the Spurs have also reached multi-year agreements with sharpshooting swingman Danny Green and versatile forward Boris Diaw.
This contract provides Duncan with a fitting end to his career. The 13-time All-Star is arguably the best power forward of all time, and the Spurs treated him as such.
