Yasiel Puig: L.A. Dodgers Reportedly Sign Cuban Outfielder to Massive Contract
Yasiel Puig, the third of the three big Cuban free agents this season, has agreed to a contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers, according to a report from the team's official website.
"According to an industry source, the Dodgers have agreed to a multi-year deal worth more than $40 million with 21-year-old international prospect Yasiel Puig, a 6-foot-3, 210-pound outfielder from Cuba.
"
Teams were quick to act on Puig as soon as he was declared a free agent by Major League Baseball on Wednesday. Apparently, the Dodgers went above and beyond in their pursuit of the Cuban star.

Like Yoenis Cespedes and Jorge Soler, Puig has been said to have the potential to be a five-tool star. However, there is very limited information that has been made available to major-league teams.
According to Baseball America, Puig was suspended by his team in Cuba last season with conflicting reports as to why. It also says he hasn't been able to play in a live game since June 2011.
Despite the many unknowns involving Puig, the Dodgers were apparently not scared to give him more money than Cespedes, Soler and Aroldis Chapman when they signed with their respective teams, assuming the $40-plus million price tag is in fact true.
As CNN has reported, the Dodgers' new ownership group has promised to take bold steps to ensure this franchise gets back to being one of the best in all of professional sports.
With Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier locked up long-term, signing Puig is a bold move that could eventually give Los Angeles the most talented outfield in all of MLB.
