LeBron James: Why I and Many Other Will Continue to Hate "King James"

Clint EilandJun 7, 2018

LeBron James played like a man with a mission in the playoffs, averaging more than 30 points a game and 10 rebounds en route to his first-ever title—much to the pleasure (or displeasure) of many.

I think LeBron is one of the greatest players to ever play the game. Not many will deny that. His talents and skill are on another level, one that not many can ever hope to achieve.

That being said, a title will not quell all criticism of him, and for good reason.

Loyalty is one of the best things anybody can ever have. To stay with somebody or something through thick and thin is a marvel in itself. It is especially welcome in cities that haven't had much success and need somebody to lead them to the promised land. I think you can see where this is going.

The city of Cleveland is what we would call a "tortured" city. None of their professional sports teams have had much success, so seeing a guy like LeBron James claim that he will bring home a championship is a marvelous thing.

Alas, it was not meant to be, as James was unable to win it all in Cleveland and moved onto "greener pastures" in Miami. He joined forces with Wade and Bosh in an attempt to win the championship he coveted so much.

After such a disappointment, you would think that he would have learned from his mistakes. Well you (and I) thought wrong.

Soon after the decision was made, he once again boldly claimed that he would bring eight championships to Miami. That was before he even played a game in the Heat uniform. The man's mouth knew no bounds.

After failing in his second Finals appearance, he finally did it. He got that championship he had promised nine years ago, albeit in a different city.

To be fair, he didn't annoy me as much this year, as he finally learned to shut his mouth every once in a while. Instead of assuring another one, he kept quiet and played with a focus I had not seen in a long time.

But that doesn't disregard everything else he did. That doesn't mean he is justified in his previous remarks. In fact, in order for people to fully support LeBron (or at least like the guy), he's going to have to win those eight championships he promised. It would only be fitting that he actually kept a promise for once in his professional career.

When you are in the national spotlight as much as he is, if you make a big promise, you are expected to come through. It's just the rule for people of his fame.

With that being said, I am still happy he got his championship. I knew it was never a question of "if" but of "when."

However, he still needs to realize what he did and the promises he made. Just because he won a championship doesn't mean the hate will go away. It was never going to.
