NBA Draft 2012: Future All-Stars Who Will Slide Past the Top 3 Picks

Ben ChodosMay 31, 2018

The teams that fell outside of the top three in the NBA Draft Lottery need not worry as some players with All-Star potential will still be available to them.

The New Orleans Hornets, Charlotte Bobcats and Washington Wizards were the big winners of the lottery and will pick in that order, but that does not mean the rest of the teams are losers.

Here are three lottery picks that will develop into future All-Stars, despite being picked after No. 3.

Thomas Robinson, PF, Kansas

Most mock drafts have Robinson going just after No. 3, but he has prototypical skills for a power forward.

The former Jayhawk is 6’10” and 237 pounds. He put up 17.7 points a game last year and can score both in the post and with his mid-range game.

What will make Robinson a future star in the NBA, though, is his rebounding. He is an absolute beast on the glass and pulled down 11.9 boards per game last season.

Robinson will be a double-double machine after he gets comfortable with the team that drafts him and his efforts will be repaid with All-Star appearances at some point in his career.

Damian Lillard, PG, Weber State

Lillard is an electric scorer who has all makings of an All-Star point guard.

He may be a small-school prospect, but he put up big numbers at Weber State. Lillard was second in the nation in scoring at 24.5 points per game.

Like all good NBA point guards, he plays efficiently. He shot 46.7 percent from the field, 40.9 percent from the three-point line, and 88.7 percent from the free-throw line this past season.

He will need to improve as a distributor, but this will come when he has other legitimate scoring options on his team. Lillard has a bright future ahead of him.

Harrison Barnes, SF, North Carolina

Barnes is also projected to go just outside of the top three and is one of the most complete prospects in the draft.

He has a great mid-range game and at 6’8”, he can be a lock-down defender on the perimeter.

He has a reliable outside shot and can also score on the drive, which allowed him to put up 17.1 points per game last season for the Tar Heels.

He’s not the flashiest player in the class, but he does everything well and that will help him have a very successful NBA career.
