Golden State Warriors: Why Trading Stephen Curry Is a Good Idea for the Future

Mike B.Jun 4, 2018

The Golden State Warriors should strongly consider placing Stephen Curry on the trading block.

Curry, the Warriors' franchise point guard, is certainly a talented young player, but unfortunately has become a bit injury-prone.

His injured right ankle forced him to miss eight games in 2010-11, and that same ankle prevented him from appearing in 40 games this season.

On April 25th, Curry underwent his second surgery on the ankle within a year, and is expected to be healthy by the start of the 2012 training camp.

Since Curry isn't healthy at the moment, the Warriors obviously wouldn't find many takers right now if they attempted to deal him. With that said, the team is going to have to wait and see if he can come back next season and look like his old self.

If Curry ends up playing well and doesn't have any problems with his troublesome ankle early on in the season, it would be in the Warriors' best interest to try and move him.

Point guard is one of the most important positions on the court, which means a number of teams would likely be interested in making a deal for the former Davidson star.

The Phoenix Suns, who have an excellent medical staff, could show interest in acquiring Curry if he became available. Also, the Suns might be in search of a young point guard to take over for Steve Nash, who could leave as a free agent this summer.

If Curry can prove that he can stay healthy, maybe the Warriors can trade him for a star.

Supposedly, back in December, the Warriors had discussions with the Boston Celtics about dealing Curry for Rajon Rondo.

Rondo, one of the league's top floor generals, can't score or shoot as well as Curry; however, he is a much better passer and plays stellar defense, something Warriors head coach Mark Jackson preaches.

Celtics GM Danny Ainge surely wouldn't pull the trigger on that type of deal anytime soon, knowing that Curry's ankle problems could resurface, but hey, you never know.

The Warriors need to trade Curry before his injuries get too out of hand.
