Lakers Trade Rumors: Andre Iguodala Won't Solve L.A.'s Problems
There's a rumor swirling around the Internet that the Los Angeles Lakers could be interested in trading for Andre Iguodala this summer, according to HoopsWorld.com, but that's not a move that will truly fix what's ailing the NBA's West Coast darling.
"...if the Sixers are eliminated by the Boston Celtics in Game 7, the general consensus around the league is that they'll try to trade Iguodala this summer...The Lakers, who are looking to shake their roster up this offseason, are expected to once again emerge as a potential suitor for Iguodala.
"
Watching the Lakers get toasted by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the second round of the playoffs, it was crystal clear that the biggest issue facing L.A. in the future doesn't revolve around its small forward play.
The Lakers' biggest issues stem from a distinct lack of playoff talent at the point guard position. While it's easy to see why Iguodala seems like a great fit for them, he won't be able to help them in that department.
Honestly, I don't see this potential trade being of much value to the Lakers in the long run.
What Iguodala brings to the table is athleticism, defense and decent rebounding. He could possibly fill the void left when Lamar Odom left town, but then again, Iguodala isn't as good a spot-up shooter as Odom was.
The Lakers need people who will play well with Kobe Bryant. While Iguodala would be beneficial on defense and on the boards, he isn't the kind of player who will work well with Bryant on offense because he is more of a slasher—just like Bryant.
As far as I'm concerned, Iguodala isn't a huge upgrade over Matt Barnes, the Lakers' second-string small forward. They would be better off keeping him and Metta World Peace while looking to upgrade their point guard play.
Ramon Sessions was horribly exposed during the Lakers' failed playoff run. He couldn't keep up with Russell Westbrook if his life depended on it, and his 3.6 assists per game clearly showed he's not capable of running Mike Brown's offense.
The Lakers would be smart to look elsewhere if they truly intend to shake up their roster. They need a legit point guard, in the worst way, who can shoot the rock—someone like Derek Fisher, only younger.
Iguodala isn't the cure for the Lakers' woes.
