WWE Over the Limit 2012: Breaking Down CM Punk vs. Daniel Bryan's Title Match

With the 2012 WWE Over the Limit Pay-Per-View Sunday, May 20, it’s time to break down the best match on the card: the WWE Title match between CM Punk and Daniel Bryan.

Bryan and Punk have worked together many times over the last few years on the independent circuit. Their friendship out of the ring will lend itself to a great match.

While it is very uncertain if we will get this match or feud again anytime soon or if this is just a holdover battle, the fans that have been calling for this for a long time should just enjoy it for what it is and what it could be.

In-Ring Storytelling

With a serious friendship outside of wrestling and a shared love of the art of wrestling, these men have been planning their battle since they were told it would be coming to fruition.

The biggest problem here is that WWE has given them little story behind this match and almost no time to build it on Raw or SmackDown. That means the focus of the match will almost solely be on the action in the ring.

While there are many fans in the WWE Universe that don’t like the whole emphasis on the actual wrestling, this bout will truly have even the most skeptical fans enjoying the show.

Old Moves Fans Can Expect

Dragon suplex (Full nelson suplex)

While he was the American Dragon on the independent circuit, Bryan Danielson (Daniel Bryan now) used an amazing finishing suplex he called the Dragon Suplex. As great as it was to watch, there are few opponents in WWE willing to take a move that dangerous. CM Punk isn’t scared.

Pepsi Plunge (Diving double underhook facebuster)

As great as Bryan’s finishing move was, Punk’s Indy finisher was just as intriguing. Named after his Pepsi tattoo, Punk had the very dangerous double underhook facebuster, which usually was preformed diving off the top ropes. If these two sell out for the match, we may see this move.

Cattle Mutilation (Bridging grounded double chickenwing)

Of all the extinct wrestling holds I would love to see brought back in this match, there is none more exciting and more painful than the Cattle Mutilation that won Daniel Bryan many matches over his career. If you’ve never seen a bridging grounded double chickenwing, do yourself a favor and watch a piece of wrestling history.

Prediction: Daniel Bryan wins the WWE Title with the help of AJ

With a hard-fought battle coming, there is no doubt this match will not only steal the show at Over the Limit, but also contend for match of the year.

CM Punk has held the belt for a long time, but the WWE has to be building to something with all of the segments pertaining to Bryan’s former girlfriend A.J. This is the time to take the belt from the face and let him chase the heel.

My feeling is that after an insanely-tough match, the final result will see AJ interfering to try to stop Punk from attacking Bryan anymore, after which Bryan will get the roll-up pin and the win.
