David Beckham wants to play on for two more years, with the 37-year-old LA Galaxy star not ruling out carrying on into his 40s.

Said Beckham, who was in Greece as part of the London 2012 team collecting the Olympic flame, as per news agency AFP:

"

I want to continue to play football for as long as I can, maybe for another two years. Then I'll always be involved in sports and football in some way. I'm very proud of what I've achieved in the years I've played.

My dream came true. I wanted to play for Manchester United and the national team and I achieved that.

Beckham also restated his desire to represent Great Britain in the men's Olympic football tournament in the 2012 London Games.

The former England captain hopes to be selected as one of three overage players by coach Stuart Pearce, but made it clear he wants to be picked purely on merit—and not on any notion of his celebrity, or as reward for the part he played in London winning the Olympics bid.

"We're very excited and very proud to stage the Olympics in the UK, and I'm very proud to be a part of it," Beckham said. "It's incredible what's been created down at the Olympic Park."
