Clippers vs. Spurs: Game 2 TV Schedule, Live Stream, Spread Info and More

Matt ShetlerJun 7, 2018

The Los Angeles Clippers found out on Tuesday in Game 1 of their Round 2 series against the San Antonio Spurs what type of juggernaut this San Antonio team is right now.

So much for the Spurs getting rusty after a week-long break; instead, San Antonio extended a winning streak that few NBA teams have ever sustained.

The Spurs have won 15 in a row, not experiencing defeat in more than a month and winning by an average margin of nearly 17 points during that span. It's the longest winning streak sustained in the NBA playoffs since the 2004 Spurs carried 17 straight wins into the second round that season.

That Spurs team ended up losing four straight to the Los Angeles Lakers. This Spurs team is a well-oiled machine, and a similar fate to the Clippers doesn't seem likely—especially if a rested Tim Duncan can consistently give the type of effort that he did in Game 1.

Duncan showed Blake Griffin and the young Clippers a thing or two, scoring 26 points and grabbing 10 rebounds in the first meeting. Another vintage performance like that from Duncan, and the Clippers will find themselves in a quick 2-0 hole.

To even the series, the Clippers will need much more from point guard Chris Paul, who scored just six points and didn't make a single basket in the second half, and the banged-up Griffin, who scored only 15 points and seemed to run out of energy very quickly.

Game 2 is essentially the biggest game in Clippers franchise history, and in order to have a chance to upset the No. 1-seeded Spurs, they must head back to the Staples Center with the series even at a game apiece.

Here's everything you need to know about this pivotal Western Conference playoff battle.

What They're Saying

Everyone looked forward to the matchup between point guards Tony Parker and Paul, but it pretty much fizzled out in Game 1; neither guy played particularly great, especially Paul, who went only 3-of-13 from the floor in the loss.

ESPN's D.J. Foster took a look at why Paul struggled mightily in Game 1:

"

The Spurs gave the Clippers a basic math lesson with their defensive strategy on Paul: Two is better than one. They rotated fresh defenders on Paul and always made sure no man was an island against one of the league's best isolation scorers. Offensively? Three is greater than two. The Spurs rode their perimeter shooting for an ultra-efficient offensive performance.

"

Most Important Player to Watch: Chris Paul

It's doubtful that Paul will perform horribly in two consecutive games, so I would expect something big out of him in Game 2.

I almost gave this to coach Vinny Del Negro instead of Paul because he has a ton of adjustments to make at both ends of the floor.

Del Negro is going to have to find a way to make things easier for Paul, as he had hands in his face all game long. If Paul doesn't have the room to be a playmaker because the Spurs are running multiple bodies at him, it could be an easy series for the Spurs.

Which brings us back to Del Negro.

Gregg Popovich will outcoach him this series. Del Negro just needs to make adjustments so that coaching doesn't become a deciding factor.

He can start by finding ways to make things easier on Paul in Game 2.

Key Matchup: Clippers Defense vs. Spurs Shooters

The Clippers can use fatigue as an excuse for Game 1, but if they don't do a better job of getting out on the San Antonio shooters, they will get blown out in Game 2 as well.

The Spurs made a whopping 13-of-25 three-point attempts on Tuesday night, which turned out to be a deciding factor in their win.

No team in basketball moves the ball as well and plays unselfish basketball the way the Spurs do.

They will continue to get open looks on the perimeter in Game 2, and if the Clippers don't do a better job of rotating and jumping out on shooters, San Antonio will shoot them right out of this series.

Spurs 105

Clippers 96
