Preakness 2012 Odds: Horses to Avoid at All Costs

Ryan RudnanskyJun 6, 2018

There are the dark horses, then there are the horses who just don't have a chance.

As we get set for the 2012 Preakness Stakes on Saturday, some contenders with bad odds have a shot of at least challenging the favorites.

Others, however, aren't strong enough to legitimately pressure the front-runners.

Here's a look at three horses facing long odds who you shouldn't bet on.

3. Daddy Nose Best

Daddy Nose Best already has 11 starts to his name, so he's clearly been broken in. He started off 2012 well, winning his first two races, but then he finished a disappointing 10th place at the Kentucky Derby.

His finish at Churchill Downs was concerning, given he had good post position, and he appeared to get pushed around down the stretch. He went backwards in his last start.

2. Cozzetti

Cozzetti has one victory and one third-place finish in seven career starts, not exactly a great resume. He had a decent start at the Arkansas Derby this year, but there's nothing to suggest he actually has a shot at winning the Preakness Stakes, or even placing.

Unless he's grown by leaps and bounds since the Arkansas Derby, I don't see him finishing well at Pimlico.

1. Guyana Star Dweej

Guyana Star Dweej may have placed second or better in his last five starts, but that's a bit misleading. The only start he's had against solid competition was at Belmont Park on April 27. He did finish second in that race, but he was a distant second.

Guyana Star Dweej is largely considered to be outclassed right now, but that doesn't mean he can't do damage down the line with some experience.
