WWE News: Mark Henry Undergoing Surgery; How This Effects the Rest of His Career
It has been reported that Mark Henry will undergo surgery for some nagging injuries. Although these injuries have been aggravating him for a while, he decided to wrestle through them over the past year. His groin injury was rumored to be the cause of his quick World Heavyweight Championship loss against the Big Show at the December 2011 TLC pay-per-view.
Mark Henry—after signing a ten year contract for the WWE in 1996—finally reached a main-event level in 2011, defeating Randy Orton at the Night of Champions pay-per-view to become the World Heavyweight Champion for the first time.
He dominated SmackDown the latter part of 2011, inducting numerous Superstars such as Kane, the Big Show, and the Great Khali to his Hall of Pain. Unfortunately, due to his injuries, his reign only lasted three months.
Although he has still been in upper mid-card status, he has yet to be a legitimate main-eventer after his injury. As of late, he has mainly been used to put over bigger stars such as CM Punk and Sheamus.
His last televised appearance was on the April 27th edition on SmackDown, losing to Sheamus.
With reports indicating that he was considering retirement last year, expect Mark Henry's return to the WWE after his recovery to be a relatively short-lived one.
