Bryce Harper: The Top Plays of His Young MLB Career
Bryce Harper has quickly emerged as arguably the most exciting player in baseball right now.
His passion, hustle and raw talent has resulted in a slew of top plays this season, even though he's only been in the show for just over two weeks.
While everything he does seems to make the highlight reels, I really narrowed it down for this list. I wanted the truly major and important moments of his career to be recognized, rather than the many plays that have been overly hyped up because of his image.
On that note, here they are: the top five plays of Harper's young career.
First Major League Hit
1 of 5Harper's first major league hit, although not a game-changer, deserves recognition.
In the first game of his MLB career, Harper stepped in with two outs in the top of the seventh against Chad Billingsley and smoked 3-2 pitch for a double over center fielder Matt Kemp's head.
Although the offering was high and away, Harper put a great swing on the ball.
Perhaps the hit gave him some confidence, as he hit a go-ahead sacrifice fly during the ninth inning of the contest.
Look, Ma! One Hand!
2 of 5Call it what you want—luck or talent—but Harper makes a great play on this ball.
He even stumbles a bit when he gets ready to camp under it, but that didn't stop him from making a very acrobatic play.
The amazing part isn't even that he caught it barehanded; it's that he caught it with three fingers.
Wow.
First Major League Home Run
3 of 5This ranks just above Harper's three-fingered catch, mostly because this will likely be the first of many home runs for the 19-year-old power hitter.
Harper smacked a knee-high slider in Monday night's game, sending it over the center field wall to give the Nationals a 4-1 lead.
He handled it like a professional, rounding the bases quickly heading back to the dugout to many congratulations from his teammates and coaches.
Harper even earned a curtain call for the home run.
Harper Crashes into the Wall
4 of 5In Harper's second career game—his first in center field—Harper made a miraculous catch against the wall in the bottom of the fourth inning on a rocket hit by the Dodgers' Juan Uribe.
He handled it like an experienced veteran, too, as he quickly regained his breath and waved the trainers off of the field.
He covers a ton of ground on this play, which is astounding considering the fact that he isn't too far removed from being a full-time catcher.
Harper has produced defensive web gem after defensive web gem, and he could very well win a Gold Glove this season if he keeps it up.
Revenge Is Sweet
5 of 5After purposely being hit by a pitch by Cole Hamels and moving to third on a Jayson Werth single, Harper decided to exact his revenge on Hamels by stealing home.
Harper waited for Hamels to release the ball to first on a pick-off attempt to ensure that he wouldn't be picked off himself.
He was not, as Ty Wigginton's throw to home plate resulted in a close play that Harper clearly beat.
It's just one of many highlights that Harper has produced over the past two weeks or so, and there will likely be many more before this young superstar retires.
