Chicago White Sox: Which Players Should Kenny Williams Look to Move Immediately?
The Chicago White Sox have begun their season, and thus far, it has been full of inconsistency.
Phil Humber has thrown a perfect game, but since then has been unable to throw consistently solid games. Four starters are batting .210 or below, which documents the struggles the bottom of the order is experiencing.
As the season progresses, GM Kenny Williams is going to have to make decisions on who to keep and who to ship out to another team. Should inconsistent play continue, the Sox will definitely be selling at the trade deadline.
Gavin Floyd
1 of 5Gavin Floyd always seems to have his name on the trade block, whether it be at the trade deadline or in the offseason.
Floyd is having a good season thus far, which could make him an enticing trade piece this season. At 29-years-old, Floyd is at the middle of his career, so he is an expendable player if the White Sox try the acquire youthful prospects.
He has a WHIP of 0.95, an ERA of 2.53 and has a 3-3 record, numbers which were more the hitters' fault for not producing runs, rather than his pitching ability.
If the Sox start looking to move players for prospects, Floyd may be sold away.
Gordon Beckham
2 of 5After a hot first season with the team, Gordon Beckham has cooled off. This season has been no exception.
Still a young player who can turn his career around, Beckham could be a piece that is shipped off based on his potential and youth. He is a natural shortstop who can play second base, so his versatility could also be a selling point to teams.
This year, the struggling infielder is batting .202 with nine RBI and 13 runs. He has hit two homers and would be a solid addition to a contender to come off the bench or hit at the bottom of the order.
His days with the White Sox may be numbered.
Adam Dunn
3 of 5Adam Dunn has finally lived up to his lucrative contract thus far this season, already passing his home run mark from last year.
Dunn is definitely in the running for Comeback Player of the Year. He is batting .250, with 12 home runs and 28 RBI.
He is a veteran player who is used to playing down the stretch. Any playoff contender that can make a solid deal to get him, should, and the White Sox should look to move the aging slugger.
Although he is primarily used as a designated hitter for the Sox, he has played 1B lately and could play there should he be sent to a National League team.
A.J. Pierzynski
4 of 5A.J. Pierzynski may be the best play-calling catcher in Major League Baseball, but he is aging and the Sox should be looking for a youthful catcher.
Pierzynski is in his mid-30s, which is quite old for a catcher. Catchers take a bunch of punishment throughout their careers, but Pierzynski has consistently played good defense and hit the ball.
Pierzynski could be shopped, as Tyler Flowers seems to be their future catcher. Pierzynski is batting .257, which has cooled from earlier in the season, but has still managed five home runs.
Pierzynski could attain several talented prospects should the Sox move him, which would be a final service for the team which he has served so well.
Jake Peavy
5 of 5Bear with me here, because Peavy is having a great season and people are going to think I am crazy for saying he should be traded.
Peavy has a large contract and is in a contract year. He is playing stellar, maybe because he wants to earn another whopping contract.
Either way, his star power could attain the White Sox some very good players. At 4-1, Peavy has a marvelous 1.89 ERA and 0.80 WHIP. His only loss was a result of a lack of offense, as Peavy only gave up one run.
Peavy is going to earn a great contract next year. The Sox should ship him and get some prospects before he most likely walks away in the offseason.
