SEC Football Q&A: Is Any Team in the Country as Complete as LSU?

Barrett SalleeMay 10, 2012

Every Thursday on The SEC Blog, we will feature questions from the B/R inbox, Twitter and email. Do you have a question for next week's Q&A? Send it to SEC Lead Blogger Barrett Sallee via the B/R inbox, on Twitter @BarrettSallee or at bsallee@bleacherreport.com.

From Barret White (@BarretWhite) on Twitter: Is there anyone in the SEC or the country that's as complete as LSU appears to be in 2012?

I certainly don't think so. If LSU isn't the No. 1 team in the country before the season starts, it'll be because the Tigers and Alabama split votes atop the standings, which would allow USC to sneak in. On paper, there's not a more complete team than LSU entering 2012.

The Tigers really only have one question mark—their quarterback. Zach Mettenberger seemed to impress everyone that saw him this spring, and even if he isn't the second-coming of Joe Montana, all he needs to do is establish the threat of a passing game for the Tigers to be successful.

From Andre Lawson (@Drexlaws) on Twitter: What team will win the SEC this year, and why?

Right now, I'm picking LSU. Of course, that's subject to change as the offseason progresses.

The Tigers made it to the BCS National Championship Game last season with Jordan Jefferson and Jarrett Lee playing quarterback. As stated above, Mettenberger just has to make opposing defenses think about the deep ball in order for LSU to take it to the next level.

Behind LSU, Alabama and Arkansas are my next two picks. Alabama still has a lot of holes to replace in that defense, but Nick Saban has stocked that roster full of 5-star talent.

Arkansas gets LSU and Alabama at home, and I don't think the loss of Bobby Petrino will impact the Razorbacks at all. They're probably not on the same level as Alabama or LSU yet, but they're close enough to need just one or two breaks to get there.

From Matthew (@HokieGuru) on Twitter: When will the SEC expand again?

It certainly won't be in the immediate future, even if the preposterous FSU to the Big 12 rumor turns out to be true (which it isn't).

It's no secret that SEC commissioner Mike Slive's next step after adding Texas A&M and Missouri is to revise the television deal, and that's sure to bring boat loads of cash to the SEC.

We will know a lot about the SEC's plans when the new television deal gets done. Slive worked in specific times to "look into" the details of the previous contract based on changes in the college football landscape. I'd imagine the next round of expansion will coincide with whatever time is stipulated in the contract.

Ballpark guess: The SEC will be at 16 teams (or more) in 2017.

Who will those two additions be? Don't sleep on Virginia Tech and N.C. State. The SEC added 14 percent of the top 36 television markets in the country with the addition of Texas A&M and Missouri. Washington, D.C. (No. 8) and Raleigh, N.C. (No. 23) are two valuable television markets.

From Allen Walton (@BigAlWalton) on Twitter: What comes first, another [Atlanta] Braves National League pennant or a Georgia SEC football championship?

Just look at the calendar. October comes before December. Therefore, the Braves are going to win the 2012 National League pennant before the 2012 SEC Championship Game even takes place.

What, do you honestly think the Braves aren't going send Chipper Jones out with a championship?
