Euro Cup 2012: Loss of Star Defender Carles Puyol Isn't a Huge Problem for Spain
Spain will be without star center back Carles Puyol for the European Championships this summer because of a knee injury, according to Setanta, leaving manager Vicente del Bosque with some big decisions to make regarding his defense.
Per Setanta:
"He will undergo surgery later this week and with his rehabilitation expected to take up to six weeks, he is almost certain to miss this summer's tournament in Poland and Ukraine.
"After tests were conducted it was decided the player would have arthroscopic surgery next Saturday, May 12," Barcelona confirmed in a statement.
"The estimated time he will be out of action is around six weeks."

Spain relies on the Barcelona captain for his great defense and strong leadership skills. He's also a force in the air, especially on corner kicks and other set pieces.
Puyol and Gerard Pique form one of the best center back tandems in Europe as part of Barcelona, and the two were part of Spain's back four during the team's World Cup triumph in 2010.
Now, Del Bosque must find a replacement for Puyol, and he has several options.
Sergio Ramos of Real Madrid, whose natural position is right back, could make the transition to the center of the defense. Ramos has played at center back at times for his club this season, and he has the pace and strength needed to excel next to Pique for Spain.
Javi Martinez of Athletic Bilbao is one of the most talented young Spanish players right now, but since he's a midfielder, it will be very tough for him to break into the central midfield when Xavi, Andres Iniesta, Cesc Fabregas and Sergio Busquets have that position locked down.
Martinez is a strong player with good composure and may be a nice fit in the middle of the Spanish defense.
Puyol's injury is certainly a setback for Spain, no question, but it shouldn't be a devastating blow to its chances of winning the Euros for the second straight time.
Spain has enough talent to overcome Puyol's absence and remain a strong defensive squad.
