NFL Rumors: Cleveland Browns Must Dump Colt McCoy After Brandon Weeden Pick
After selecting Brandon Weeden with the 22nd pick in the 2012 NFL draft, the Cleveland Browns need to ship Colt McCoy out of town.
Leading up to the draft, the Browns repeatedly stated that McCoy would be the team's starting quarterback again next season and expressed confidence in his abilities at the position. Then, seemingly out of nowhere, they grabbed Oklahoma State's Weeden with their second first-round pick.
The 28-year-old Weeden is expected to start immediately, and the Browns are counting on him winning the job outright before the 2012 season. That would seem to leave McCoy, who was the team's starter under center for the past two seasons, out in the cold.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
After drafting Weeden, Cleveland engaged in talks with the Green Bay Packers about a trade involving McCoy, but nothing came of it. Now, ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting that the Browns have no plans to trade him at the moment.
Keeping McCoy would be a terrible decision by the Browns, even if they plan on just having him as a backup to Weeden. When you have two quarterbacks who want to start on your roster, it invariably creates friction. There is no way McCoy is going to be OK with handing over his starting spot to Weeden.
I'm sure there are also players on Cleveland's roster who think McCoy should be the starter and believe that he has earned that right after 21 starts over the past two seasons.
But as the old saying goes, "if you have two starting quarterbacks, you don't have one." And that holds true here. The Browns should try to trade McCoy for whatever they can get in return. Seneca Wallace is an adequate backup with starting experience, and Weeden is obviously the team's future after he was taken with a first-round pick.
McCoy's time in Cleveland should be over.
