NBA Playoff Schedule 2012: Teams with an Early Loss You Shouldn't Worry About

Tim KeeneyJun 7, 2018

Contrary to the popular belief of angry Twitter posts, NBA playoff series' actually last seven games. One loss doesn't end a series.

Even if that loss was as ugly as Chicago's awful performance against Philadelphia.

Or Memphis' historic collapse.

The first week of the 2012 NBA playoffs has been marred with injuries, fire-extinguisher attacks and fourth-quarter chokes. It's causing fans and pundits alike to freak out.

But it's time to just slow down and breathe. Most teams are still three losses from elimination. Here's a look at which teams are primed to bounce back from early defeats.

You can find the complete playoff schedule here

Indiana Pacers

I might be a little behind on this one because the Pacers already rebounded from their Game 1 loss with an impressive victory on Monday.

Nonetheless, they've lost home-court advantage, and I'm sure people in Indiana are fretting.

They shouldn't though. Orlando is still a mediocre team without Dwight Howard, and the Pacers have plenty of offensive depth. And on defense, they've held the Magic to an average of 79.5 points per game so far in the series.

Look for the Magic to continue to struggle on the offensive end, and now that the young Pacers squad has gotten the jitters out of the way, expect them to roll.

Memphis Grizzlies

I'm pretty sure the most overrated thing in sports is how people think a devastating loss will affect a team throughout the series.

The Grizzlies blowing a 27-point lead—and the dreaded looks on the fans' faces—was about as hard to watch as most scenes of "The Office" involving Michael Scott, but these guys are professionals.

If Memphis was the type of team that let a bad loss linger with them, they wouldn't have made it this far. They wouldn't have went 41-27.

This is still a balanced team with an impressive inside-outside punch.

Grizzlies in seven.

Chicago Bulls

If there has ever been an overreaction to a loss, Chicago's Game 2 defeat to the 76ers is it, and it's understandable considering it came on the heel of losing Derrick Rose.

But people need to remember this same Bulls team went 18-9 without Rose during the regular season. It wasn't as good as they were with him in the lineup, but it was still impressive.

Last night, Rose's backups, C.J Watson and John Lucas, combined for 27 points, seven assists and just two turnovers.

The offensive drop-off isn't as bad as it seems.

Where the Bulls truly miss Rose, however, is on defense, as Jrue Holiday and Lou Williams lit up the Bulls for 46 points in Game 2.

Nonetheless, as long as the Bulls concentrate on getting back on defense (Philly had 25 fastbreak points last night), the Sixers won't shoot a ridiculous 59 percent every game.

The Bulls will be fine.
