College Football Recruiting 2013: The Top Commitments for Each Pac-12 School
Monday was the SEC, and yesterday we covered the Big Ten today we head out west to the Pac-12. We're continuing our series of covering each team's top commitment thus far as we enter the meat of the live evaluation period in recruiting.
Of course, USC and Oregon are the lead dogs near the Pacific Ocean, yet Stanford enjoyed a great class last year, Washington came on strong and UCLA could very well be on the rise.
Let's take a look at each Pac-12 school's top commitment for 2013.
Arizona Wildcats
1 of 12Logan Stott, OG
Stott is a 6'3", 300-pound OG prospect from Utah that is verballed up to play in Tucson next year. His best asset is his strength, as it's hard for defensive linemen to power through Stott.
He shows great anchor strength and can latch on to sustain a block, and his strength allows him to steer his targets as a run-blocker.
Arizona State Wildcats
2 of 12Nick Brown, ATH
Brown is a 5'11", 190-pounder out of Arizona that isn't ranked high, but there's one thing we've noticed: He doesn't care.
He's an athletic football player who has played QB, RB, WR and DB for his high school team. He'll do what needs to be done to get a win, and his athleticism and versatility will get him on the field in Tempe.
California Golden Bears
3 of 12Jared Goff, QB
If there's one thing we know about Jeff Tedford, it's that he loves him some quarterbacks. Already having Zach Kline in Berkeley as an early enrollee, Tedford also has a 2013 commitment from a 4-star QB in Goff.
At 6'4" and 190 pounds, Goff is from Northern California and tossed for over 3,200 yards and 45 touchdowns as a junior.
Colorado Buffaloes
4 of 12Mitch Parsons, WR/TE
Mitch Parsons is a 6'4", 220-pound wideout that probably projects best as a TE in college. He's not overly fast, but the Colorado native has demonstrated good athleticism, excellent hands, length and a large strike zone.
He plays nastily as a stalk-blocker, so that will help him transition to TE in Boulder. Parsons can pluck in a crowd with ease and will be a great TE for the Buffs.
Oregon Ducks
5 of 12Thomas Tyner, RB
Tyner is the nation's fastest player, and he has experience as a track competitor with a 6'0", 207-pound frame. He just flies by defenses and is one of the elite RB prospects in the national 2013 class.
He is a bit injury-prone, so there are some durability questions on him right now. But if Chip Kelly can keep him healthy, he will be a prime-time dynamic weapon in Eugene.
Oregon State Beavers
6 of 12The Beavers have no commitments for the 2013 class at this time.
Stanford Cardinal
7 of 12Isaac Savaiinaea, LB
Hailing from Hawaii, Savaiinaea is a 6'3", 230-pound linebacker prospect with great instincts, solid speed and good thumping ability.
He plays hard, is very aware on the field, locates the ball quickly and is tough. He's the best 'backer to come of the Island since Manti Te'o.
UCLA Bruins
8 of 12Dashon Hunt, CB
You look at Dashon Hunt and see what Bill Parcells would call "a mascot player," because he's not big. But the 5'9", 175-pounder from Westlake, CA plays like he's 6'3".
Hunt is a very physical and tough cornerback with a good feel for routes and will jump the gun for a pick if he senses it. He plays with great speed and good hips, and he supports the run anytime he can.
USC Trojans
9 of 12Max Browne, QB
I could have easily gone with Kenny Bigelow, but we all know that QB takes precedence in football. At 6'5" and 210 pounds, Browne has excellent mechanics, a quick release and good arm strength and accuracy.
He works through his progressions, has a good feel for the game and is the top QB in the country.
Utah Utes
10 of 12Siale Fakailoatonga, TE
Fakailoatonga is a TE prospect from Utah that stands at 6'4" and weighs 225 pounds. He has a ton of potential due to his natural athleticism and football talent.
Don't be shocked to see him turn into a standout DE for the Utes, as Fakailoatonga is still discovering his true frame and finding his niche on the field.
Washington Huskies
11 of 12Derek Babiash, CB
Derek Babiash is a California native that stands 6'1" and weighs 170 pounds. He won't wow you with excellent speed, but he's big, long and gutsy on the perimeter.
His size will allow him to be a swing DB for the Huskies, as he'll likely be able to be used at both CB and S.
Washington State Cougars
12 of 12Trevor Walker, S
With Mike Leach now in Pullman, Wash., you know he's going to work his old connections in Texas to get some prospects. That's already evident by his lone commitment being a Lone Star State native.
Walker is a very good character guy, excellent in the locker room and has outstanding leadership qualities. He stands 6'1", 185 pounds and will tag you up if you have the ball. As a junior, he totaled 89 tackles along with a remarkable 17 PBUs and picked off five balls.
