College Football Recruiting 2013: Where Are the Top 10 RBs Headed?

Edwin WeathersbyMay 1, 2012

Yesterday, we discussed the landing spots for the nation's top-10 QB prospects.Today, we'll turn our focus to the top-10 rock-toters and determine where they are headed to to play college ball.

I've also reshuffled my RB rankings, so that'll be another angle this piece will touch upon. Come inside and pore over the new edition of the RB board, and find out where the nation's best running backs will be toting the rock.

Here we go.

10. Kelvin Taylor

1 of 10

Taylor, the son of former Florida RB Fred Taylor, is 5'10", 205 pounds. He goes into his senior season already the all-time leading rusher in Florida high-school football.

Taylor runs with good power and tackle-breaking ability, has speed to get to the edges and shows natural run instincts.

He's pledged Florida, of course.

9. Dontre Wilson

2 of 10

A 5'10", 180-pound scatback from Texas, Wilson has great speed and quickness in space—and in a phone booth. He reminds me a bit of a bigger Trey Williams.

Look for Wilson to also factor as a return man.

8. Ryan Green

3 of 10

Green is a big-time prospect from Florida.

He stands 5'11", 185 pounds and is as explosive as they come. He shows great burst to scat to and through holes, gets a jump on linebackers at the second level, wiggles to elude them and has playmaking ability in the open field.

7. Greg Bryant

4 of 10

A 5'10", 200-pound downhill runner, Bryant also shows shockingly good hands out of the backfield. Combine that with his run strength, solid speed and vision, and you have a complete back in college.

He's committed to Oklahoma.

6. Justin Davis

5 of 10

Davis has been very productive for his Stockton Lincoln High School squad, rushing for over 2,000 yards and nearly 40 touchdowns last year. Here's my evaluation of him:

"

At 6'1", 195 pounds, Davis will be a three-down RB in college, as he can bang inside with the big boys and has speed to turn corners.

Davis has one-cut skills, as he is very, very decisive with the ball, makes up mind and executes his decision with vision, run strength, quickness, burst and the speed to break a defense down for long runs.

"

He's committing on May 17 and is looking at Cal, USC, Stanford, Washington, Oregon, Florida State and Notre Dame.

5. Keith Ford

6 of 10

Ford is a known commodity in Texas. He's a sturdy 5'11", 200 pounds and just gets it done. Ford flashes good suddenness, is quick to cut and go and also has good run strength.

A smart and keenly aware back, Ford is agile with the ball and sets up blocks well. He may have the most natural vision of any runner on this list.

He's headed to Oklahoma.

4. Altee Tenpenny

7 of 10

Tenpenny missed most of his junior season with a leg injury, but the 6', 205-pounder flashed excellent skills as a sophomore. Here's my evaluation of him:

"Tenpenny, when at full strength, has excellent leg drive, can push piles with strength and also has home run speed to take it to the house at anytime."

He's committed to Alabama, but Arkansas has stayed on him.

3. Derrick Henry

8 of 10

Henry, a Floridian, is a huge 6'3", 240-pounder that has better athleticism and speed than power at this point. That's a rare find in such a large runner, but it's the case with Henry.

A 2,000-yard rusher a season ago, Henry has quick feet, good vision, and his size makes it such a difficult task to bring him down.

He's committed to Georgia.

2. Thomas Tyner

9 of 10

I'm moving Tyner down a notch because I'm just not sure if he can shake the injury bug. However, he's the fastest player in the country and just a nightmare for defenses.

It's hard to believe that when the 6', 207-pounder is at full strength, he can move that fast.

Tyner's heading to Oregon.

1. Ty Isaac

10 of 10

I'm moving Isaac to the No. 1 spot for now, as the 6'2", 220-pounder is a 2,000-yard rusher and has been dominant versus Illinois high-school competition. Here's my evaluation of him:

"

Isaac has great speed, the agility to elude and make defenders miss in the open field, run instincts and also can factor as a receiver out of the backfield thanks to his great hands.

"

USC, Auburn, Michigan and Alabama have all gone to see Isaac this spring. Also, don't count out Notre Dame.
