NBA Playoffs Predictions: Biggest Games to Watch as Round 1 Action Heats Up

Ethan NorofMay 31, 2018

The first round of the NBA playoffs has already brought us surprise, heartbreak and predictions for what might happen moving forward, and each team has just played one game.

Although every series is separated by just a single game at this juncture, some teams are already looking like they're dead in the water, while others might just be poised to surprise a ton of diehard fans.

It's too early to call any of these games a "must-win," but the pressure can quickly mount in the playoffs, and once the momentum swings one way in a series, it's awfully difficult to get it back.

Game 2: Mon. April 30, New York at Miami, 7 p.m., TNT

The Knicks might not be able to win this one, but New York has to at least make it competitive.

Game 1 of the series was an absolute blowout, and nobody in a Knicks uniform looked capable of slowing down an incredibly efficient LeBron James.

New York could head back to Madison Square Garden down two games, and if that happens, it's going to be near-impossible hole to climb out of for a team that appeared to be firing on all cylinders when the regular season came to a close.

Game 2: Mon. April 30, Orlando at Indiana, 7:30 p.m., NBA TV

Indiana is a No. 3 seeded team that is built off of depth. What do teams like that traditionally do in the playoffs? Fold.

The Pacers couldn't find the bottom of the net in Game 1 against the Magic, and there is just no way this team can afford another poor performance from Danny Granger.

Although Orlando doesn't have Dwight Howard in the lineup, this club has found a way to grind through by using its sharpshooters to create problems for the Pacers on the defensive end.

Game 2: Mon. April 30, Dallas at Oklahoma City, 9:30 p.m., TNT

Kevin Durant's game-winner over the outstretched arm of Shawn Marion is still fun to watch, and I honestly have no idea how K.D. got that shot to fall.

Regardless, OKC captured the moment when winning the first game, and I would be very surprised if the Thunder show any sign of being hesitant in the second go-around.

If Dallas has to head back to Texas without a win, it's going to be a quick playoff "push" for the 2010-11 champs.

Game 2: Tue. May 1, Boston at Atlanta, 7:30 p.m., NBA TV

If Ray Allen's ankle prevents him from suiting up again and Rajon Rondo is suspended for his not-so-accidental bump of a referee, the Celtics are going to be in trouble.

How does Boston replace Rondo's offense? He had 20 points and 11 assists in Game 1, and that production isn't going to be replaced by someone sitting on the bench.

Atlanta forced Boston to play a perimeter-oriented style of play on offense, something that really exploited the Celtics' approach without Allen in the lineup.

The Hawks also hatched a great defensive approach against Avery Bradley, who was limited to just 10 points on 12 shots against Joe Johnson.

Game 2: Wed. May 2, L.A. Clippers at Memphis, 9:30 p.m., TNT

It was pretty incredible to witness the Clippers refusing to give up hope in a game that everyone had thought was over, and it's clear that L.A. isn't just going to roll over.

Memphis needs to come out with a statement win in Game 2 before Chris Paul sets a stronger tone for Blake Griffin, and Rudy Gay has to do more at both ends of the floor.

Caron Butler's broken hand is going to sideline him for the remainder of the series, and that will certainly test Los Angeles' depth.
