Tracking Atlanta Falcons' 2012 NFL Undrafted Free Agent Signings
After the NFL draft concluded, the Atlanta Falcons wasted no time in signing the 2012 crop of rookie undrafted free agents.
With NFL rosters expanding to 90 players for training camp, there will be many more UDFA's headed to camp. But remember, making the team as an undrafted free agent is tough. Of the 23 UDFA's in Falcons' camp from Day 1 last year, only corner Darrin Walls made the roster.
Here's the list of undrafted rookies that have signed with the Falcons:
Phillip Manley, OL, Toledo
Josh Harris, LS, Auburn
Patrick Schiller, LB, Northern Illinois
Cody Pearcy, WR, Huntingdon
Jerrell Harris, LB, Alabama
Dominique Davis, QB, East Carolina
Tyler Horn, C, Miami
Louis Nzeqwu, DL, Wisconsin
Chad Faulcon, S, Montclair State
Adam Nissley, TE, Central Florida
James Rodgers, WR, Oregon State
Lamark Brown, TE, Minnesota-Mankato
Rico Council, LB, Tennessee State
Robbie Frey, RB, Kutztown
Max Gruder, LB, Pittsburgh
Bryce Harris, OT, Fresno State
Marcus Jackson, WR, Lamar
Ray Kibble, DT, Kansas State
Marty Markett, CB, South Carolina
Adam Nissley, TE, Central Florida
Micanor Regis, DT, Miami
Peyton Thompson, CB, San Jose State
Dawson Zimmerman, P, Clemson
Michael Calvin, WR, California
Phillip Manley, OL, Toledo
1 of 11Phillip Manley started at left guard for both his junior and senior seasons at Toledo.
Chances of Making Atlanta's Final Roster: 50 percent
The unit on the Falcons roster where there is the most opportunity is the offensive line. Manley has great size, if he performs well at camp, there's an outside shot he can make the roster.
Josh Harris, LS, Auburn
2 of 11Bringing in a long snapper to compete with Joe Zelenka is nothing new for the Falcons, but Zelenka is rock solid. Unless there is an injury, Harris has very little chance of making the team.
Chances of Making Atlanta's Final Roster: Low
Patrick Schiller, LB, Northern Illinois
3 of 11Patrick Schiller was a senior leader on the Northern Illinois football team and recorded a career-high 115 tackles in 2011.
Chances of Making Atlanta's Final Roster: Less than 50 percent
Free-agent linebacker Curtis Lofton bolted for New Orleans, and there's some uncertainty in the linebacker corps that Schiller could capitalize on if he continues to tackle everything in sight.
Cody Pearcy, WR, Huntingdon College
4 of 11Cody Pearcy caught 46 passes during his senior season at Huntingdon College for 766 yards and five touchdowns. However, his receiving skills are marred by less-than-stellar route-running abilities. He has great speed, but his value to the Falcons won't be as a receiver.
Chances of Making Atlanta's Final Roster: Low
Pearcy, if he has any shot at all, will make the team as a return specialist. Eric Weems, who handled return duties for the Falcons last year, left for the Bears. Cornerback Dominique Franks can step in and be the Atlanta return guy, but Pearcy has the attributes to shine as well.
Jerrell Harris, LB, Alabama
5 of 11Harris has experience playing both inside and out in the 3-4 defensive scheme. He's a powerful linebacker who plays better in close quarters and definitely flourishes in the run game.
Harris can drop back into coverage, but that aspect of his game is raw. He shows good instincts, especially with jumping routes, but tends to fall off against advanced route-runners.
Chances of Making Atlanta's Final Roster: Less than 50 percent
The Falcons have a linebacker unit that's in a bit of a state of flux right now. Curtis Lofton is gone and new defensive coordinator Mike Nolan might start showing some 3-4 hybrid looks in the Falcons' 4-3. Harris' experience in the 3-4 could help.
Dominique Davis, QB, East Carolina
6 of 11Dominique Davis has no shot at stepping onto a football field for the Atlanta Falcons in 2012. Matt Ryan is the starting quarterback and Chris Redman a more-than-able backup.
Chances of Making Atlanta's Final Roster: 50 percent
Davis could come in and challenge John Parker Wilson for his spot as No. 3 on the depth chart.
Tyler Horn, C, Miami
7 of 11Miami center Tyler Horn will have his work cut out for him in Atlanta.
Todd McClure re-signed for another season with the Falcons and Joe Hawley was drafted to be his heir apparent.
On Friday, the Falcons drafted Wisconsin's Peter Konz, who will play guard in 2012, but is a natural center.
Chances of Making Atlanta's Final Roster: Low
There's always room for depth on Atlanta's offensive line, but Horn might not have some of the tools needed to make Atlanta's roster.
Louis Nzegwu, DL, Wisconsin
8 of 11Louis Nzegwu has speed and a good frame to play defensive end at 6'4" and 255 pounds. However, Nzegwu doesn't explode well enough towards the quarterback to be effective in pass-rush situations.
Chances of Making Atlanta's Final Roster: Low
Atlanta is already set on the defensive line when it comes to playing the run. The Falcons need pass-rush help, and Nzegwu might not be the answer.
Chad Faulcon, S, Montclair State
9 of 11Chad Faulcon has two things going for him: 1) His last name is pronounced "Falcon"; 2) he has a nickname of "The Sniper."
Faulcon is a huge hitter and pretty darned fast to boot. His nickname comes from making big plays all over the field.
Chances of Making Atlanta's Final Roster: Less than 50 percent
The Falcons already have a big-play safety in William Moore. What the team needs is help in coverage. Faulcon could definitely make a name for himself on special teams. That might be his only path onto the roster.
Adam Nissley, TE, Central Florida
10 of 11Many people thought the Atlanta Falcons would go into the 2012 NFL draft looking for a pass-catching tight end to step into the role Tony Gonzalez plays now, eventually.
Adam Nissley isn't that tight end.
Nissley is a blocking tight end who was transformed from the offensive tackle position. At 6'5", 268 pounds, he has awesome size and great attributes like a never-stop motor, solid character and great toughness.
Chances of Making Atlanta's Final Roster: Less than 50 percent
Nissley will be battling Michael Palmer and Reggie Kelly (yet unsigned) for playing time. If Kelly retires, Nissley's path to the roster gets easier.
James Rodgers, WR, Oregon State
11 of 11If the name Rodgers sounds familiar, it is. James' older brother Jacquizz was drafted by the Falcons last year.
James Rodgers is a wide receiver and a return specialist. Like his brother, James is a small package with speed and playmaking ability. James Rodgers is likely too small to flourish in the NFL as a receiver.
Chances of Making Atlanta's Final Roster: Low
The most likely way James Rodgers joins his brother Jacquizz is to shine on special teams. Atlanta is looking for either a starting or backup return specialist since it lost Eric Weems to free agency.
