2012 NFL Mock Draft: The Definitive Guide to Round 2

Jesse ReedJun 7, 2018

Round 1 of the 2012 NFL draft is in the books and, as usual, there were a few surprise picks.

Now it's time to predict who's going to go in Round 2 in this mock draft.

If the second round goes anything like the first, we'll see a ton of trades. The board is still full of excellent pro prospects, some of whom are bound to become All Pros at the next level.

Let's take a look at the way things are going to go down in Round 2.

33. St. Louis Rams: Stephen Hill, WR, Georgia Tech

The Rams, having solidified their defensive line with the selection of defensive tackle Michael Brockers, will now focus their attention on collecting offensive weapons for quarterback Sam Bradford

Hill is a raw prospect, but his potential to become a game-breaking wide receiver is too good to pass up here at the top of the second round.

34. Indianapolis Colts: Coby Fleener, TE, Stanford

This pick makes too much sense not to happen. The Colts can make Andrew Luck's transition into the pro game much easier by bringing in one of his favorite targets from college and this year's best tight end prospect.

35. Baltimore Ravens (from Vikings): Peter Konz, C, Wisconsin

The Ravens trade out of the first round but still land their man. Konz will take over for Matt Birk when he retires, and in the meantime, he will be a solid backup at both guard spots as well.

36. Denver Broncos (from Buccaneers): Jerel Worthy, DT, Michigan State

John Elway didn't like what he had to deal with, so he traded into the second round. Worthy has a first-round grade and will immediately improve the Broncos run defense—a weakness in 2011.

37. Cleveland Browns: Cordy Glenn, OG/OT, Georgia

After drafting Brandon Weeden and Trent Richardson in the first round, the Browns need to upgrade their offensive line. Glenn carries a first-round grade, and he will start from day one.

38. Jacksonville Jaguars: Courtney Upshaw, DE, Alabama

The Jaguars finally give Blaine Gabbert a weapon in the form of Justin Blackmon, and now they will turn their attention towards the defensive side of the ball and select one of the best pass-rushers in the draft.

39. St. Louis Rams (from Redskins): Jonathan Martin, OT, Stanford

After addressing the need at wide receiver and defensive tackle, the Rams will now provide Sam Bradford with another protector. Martin should overtake Jason Smith, who's been a grave disappointment in his three years with the Rams.

40. Carolina Panthers: Vinny Curry, DE, Marshall

The Panthers took Luke Kuechly in the first round, and now they will add to their front seven by adding a pure pass-rusher in Curry, who will give them a huge spark in that department.

41. Buffalo Bills: Jeff Allen, OT, Illinois

After landing one of the draft's best-kept secrets in Stephon Gilmore, the Bills will now give Ryan Fitzpatrick some much-needed help on the offensive line.

42. Miami Dolphins: Dwayne Allen, TE, Clemson

Stephen Ross got his quarterback, and now it's time to add some talent to their passing offense. Allen is going to be a dangerous weapon downfield, and the Dolphins are smart to grab him before he's gone.

43. Seattle Seahawks: Kirk Cousins, QB, Michigan State

The Seahawks' first-round selection of Bruce Irvin was the biggest shock of the first round, and they will do it again by taking Cousins to compete with Tarvaris Jackson and Matt Flynn for the starting quarterback position.

44. Kansas City Chiefs: Casey Hayward, CB, Vanderbilt

After taking the biggest, baddest workout warrior of them all in the first round, the Chiefs will now address improving their secondary.

45. St. Louis Rams (from Cowboys): Devon Still, DT, Penn State

Jeff Fisher isn't finished building his defense. Still will be a beast next to Michael Brockers, and the Rams continue the trend of the dominant defenses the NFC West are becoming known for producing.

46. Philadelphia Eagles: Trumaine Johnson, CB, Montana

The Eagles select Johnson to continue building their defense. Johnson is big enough to convert to free safety, and his diversity will fit in nicely with the pieces already in place.

47. New York Jets: Amini Silatolu, G, Midwestern State

The Jets need to get better on the interior of their offensive line. Silatolu has the tools to become an elite guard in the NFL, and playing next to Nick Mangold he'll learn quickly.

48. New England Patriots (from Raiders): Josh Robinson, CB, Central Florida

The Patriots will continue building their defense through the draft, and Robinson will be an upgrade over a few of their current players.

49. San Diego Chargers: Bobby Massie, OT, Mississippi

After selecting Melvin Ingram to boost their anemic pass rush, the Chargers will now look to protect Philip Rivers

50. Chicago Bears: Mike Adams, OT, Ohio State

The Bears finally address their protection issues by taking Adams, one of the underrated prospects at his position.

51. Philadelphia Eagles (from Cardinals): Alshon Jeffery, WR, South Carolina

The Eagles will be thrilled to see Jeffery on the board in the middle of the second round, and he will be a nice addition to an already explosive offense—especially in the red zone, where his long arms and frame will be a boon for Michael Vick.

52. Tennessee Titans: Kelechi Osemele, G, Iowa State

After picking up one of this year's most underrated players in Kendall Wright, the Titans will now look to solidify an offensive line that couldn't get any push in the running game last year.

53. Cincinnati Bengals: Brian Quick, WR, Appalachian State

The Bengals made a couple of smart picks in the first round, taking Dre Kirkpatrick and Kevin Zeitler, and now they will give Andy Dalton a shiny new toy to play with in the passing game.

54. Detroit Lions: Janoris Jenkins, CB, North Alabama

Jenkins was projected in many mock drafts leading up to the draft to land in Detroit...in the first round. He will vastly improve their secondary, and as a second-round pick, there isn't as much risk involved.

55. Atlanta Falcons: Brandon Thompson, DT, Clemson

The Falcons made a smart move trading out of the first to get extra picks. Thompson will greatly improve the depth on their defensive line, and he has the potential to become a starter sooner rather than later.

56. Pittsburgh Steelers: Andre Branch, OLB, Clemson

The Steelers made an excellent choice and landed one of the steals in this draft so far, when they took David DeCastro. They will make another good choice and get younger on the edge of their defense by taking Branch, a pass-rushing specialist who has the potential to be great.

57. Denver Broncos: T.Y. Hilton, WR, Florida International

The Broncos add another receiver to their young group. Hilton is primarily a slot receiver, which is a good thing since Demaryius Thomas and Eric Decker both thrive on the outside.

58. Houston Texans: Mitchell Schwartz, OT, California

The Texans need to come up with a replacement for the best right tackle in the NFL, Eric Winston, who they let go due to salary-cap issues.

59. Green Bay Packers: Brandon Taylor, SS, LSU

After releasing Nick Collins, the Packers will be happy to see Taylor still sitting there for the taking at the bottom of the second round.

60. Baltimore Ravens: Mychal Kendricks, ILB, California

Ray Lewis won't be around forever, and the Ravens need to find his replacement now. Kendricks is a compact, strong linebacker who projects well as a 3-4 middle linebacker.

61. San Francisco 49ers: Brandon Brooks, G, Miami (Ohio)

The 49ers took a huge reach, by most accounts, when they drafted A.J. Jenkins in the first round. Trent Baalke has a history of taking players others discounted with good success. They will now shift their focus to the offensive line and take a rising star, Brooks, who is a mauler of the first order.

62. New England Patriots: Rueben Randle, WR, LSU

After focusing on the defensive side of the ball, the Patriots will select one of this draft's most explosive wide receivers. Randle will be scary-good with Aaron Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski demanding the attention of opposing safeties.

63. New York Giants: Alameda Ta'amu, DT, Washington

The Giants need to get younger in the middle of their defense, and Ta'amu will improve their run defense significantly with his massive frame.
