WWE News: Record WrestleMania Buyrate Proves the Rock's Amazing Draw Power
There was plenty of debate among the WWE Universe about bringing back The Rock to headline WrestleMania instead of pushing a full-time superstar. However, the record-breaking buyrate for this year's biggest event proves it was an awesome decision by the company.
The company banked heavily on The Rock's feud with John Cena, building up the match for an entire year. It turns out the tactic paid off with WrestleMania garnering huge numbers across the board, according to the WWE.
"WWE announced that WrestleMania XXVIII, held April 1 at Sun Life Stadium in Miami, set new records for pay-per-view buys and gross sales.
Preliminary estimates show that WrestleMania, featuring the historic “Once in a Lifetime” Match between The Rock and John Cena, garnered 1.3 million pay-per-view buys with global gross sales in excess of $67 million including the live event.

It shows that fans of the Attitude Era returned in droves to watch one of the biggest stars in company history lace up the boots once again. Rocky has built up a huge following through his movie career and social media, and the buyrate once again illustrates his ability to draw an audience.
There wasn't another superstar on the roster who could have done a storyline with Cena and generated that much hype for the show. Even though the WWE will eventually need to start pushing younger talent into the spotlight, the company can't pass on The Rock.
If Vince McMahon felt comfortable with somebody else main-eventing the show, he would have done it because it would have saved him the money from The Rock's contract, but he understands the business better than anybody else. When somebody brings the potential to set records, you can't pass it up.
Instead of complaining about his presence taking away a potential spot on the card, other superstars should be learning as much as they can about how Rocky operates. He holds the audience in the palm of his hand like nobody else.
Situations like WrestleMania are always tough because the hype tends to get out of control, but most of those 1.3 million viewers walked away happy. The entire show was fantastic and it ended with The Rock beating Cena in an electric match that was helped by the crowd.
Hopefully, the record buyrate allows fans, whether they agreed with the decision to bring Team Bring It's captain back or not, to understand how important he was to the show. Without him, there's no way WrestleMania reaches such eye-popping heights.
Yes, he's left the company again to shoot more movies and nobody knows when he'll be back, but some fans get too caught up in his departures instead of enjoying the time he does spend with the WWE.
Whenever he does make another triumphant return, sit back and enjoy the ride. As WrestleMania proved, he's a special talent with draw power that won't be matched for a long time.
