Georgia Football: Recapping the Bulldogs' Spring Game

Barrett SalleeJun 3, 2018

Georgia wrapped up spring practice on Saturday with the annual G-Day Game at Sanford Stadium, and the buzz around Athens is all about the depth that head coach Mark Richt has built in his backfield.

Everybody knows Isaiah Crowell. As a true freshman, Crowell rushed for 850 yards en route to SEC Freshman of the Year honors. But nagging injuries and attitude issues have soured the Georgia fanbase on Crowell.

Coaches have complimented Crowell's attitude this offseason, and fans liked what they saw from Crowell 2.0 on Saturday. He finished the day with 39 yards on 10 carries, but he wasn't the only star of Georgia's backfield.

Sophomore Ken Malcome rushed for 32 yards and found the end zone twice for the Bulldogs, while senior Richard Samuel gained 43 yards on eight carries and scored one touchdown.

Add in early-enrollee Keith Marshall—who missed G-Day with a hamstring injury—and Georgia has a ton of running back depth.

Wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell made the move to defensive back this spring, and while he's expected to play both ways, senior wide receiver Tavarres King is being counted on to be the leader of the receiving corps.

King looked the part on Saturday.

He caught two passes for 47 yards and one touchdown, which kept the momentum going from an Outback Bowl performance that saw King catch six passes for 205 yards and one touchdown.
