WWE: Why WWE Title and World Title Will Again Be Unified

David LevinJun 4, 2018

In a perfect world, there is one leader. In a perfect world, there is one title. In a perfect world, there is one heavyweight champion and in a perfect world, the WWE Championship and the World Heavyweight Championship are unified.

Maybe I am asking for too much, but I think there should be one world champion. Considering that the WWE Championship is the featured title on the flagship Monday evening show, we should think about doing away with the World Title.

I know it's blasphemy to the NWA and WCW, but in reality, this is Vince McMahon's world—and he is holding the cards, all the marbles and pulling the puppet strings. There should be one title that all the wrestlers in the company have an equal shot to earn a right to compete for.

Here are some reasons to consider...

Back in the day, when Hulk Hogan was the champion, Vince McMahon determined who would be "the champion" of his company and everyone fell in line. Back in the day, there was the NWA where there was "the champion," and nine board members determined who would carry the belt. Now, there are two champions and hellish chaos.

One championship means more top stars battling each other, meeting week to week, with a real system for who will and will not compete for the top spot in the company.

It also means that titles like the Intercontinental Title and United States Title will be more important in the landscape of the company. We will see contender matches and long-standing feuds. The two champions will have a clearer path to being the top contender to the WWE title, like in years past.

This is how Steve Austin, The Rock, Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels did it, and so should the new breed of wrestlers.

While not everyone can vie for a world singles title, having gold around a wrestler's waist is so important. Tag teams will become important again. There will be more of them and long-lasting ones. And we will get to see our favorite wrestlers team up in real life rather than making it happen in a video game.

And, finally, wrestling will matter again. Stables will be important. Managers will come back and we will see the old WWF style we all grew up on.

How can this not be a good thing? We see squash matches now, not wrestling matches. The promos are great and the vignettes are tremendous. But we want to see wrestling, not something watered down.

Seriously—how bad could that be?
