NBA Draft 2012: Which Teams Would Select Anthony Davis with the Top Pick?
The NBA draft is right around the corner, and the teams who aren't going to be in the playoffs are already looking at the draft and ready to build for the future.
This year's draft class is a lot deeper than the one last year, and without the threat of a lockout this year, many star college basketball player's have declared for the NBA draft.
Teams who enter the lottery will be fighting for the rights of former Kentucky star center Anthony Davis. Davis had a terrific freshman year for the Wildcat's last season as he helped give coach John Calipari his first ever national championship. He has yet to declare for the draft, but it's expected that he will soon.
Let's take a look at some of the teams who could be eyeing Davis's services.
Michael Jordan's Charlotte Bobcats own the NBA's worst record this season at 7-48. It has been a disastrous season to say the least.
Going into the lottery, the Bobcats will have the best chance to win. However, as we've seen in the past, holding the highest lottery percentage doesn't guarantee that you'll win the No. 1 pick.
Michael Jordan and the Charlotte Bobcats hope that luck will be on their side this time around.
Another team that could be in the mix for the top pick in this years draft is the Washington Wizards. They've been on ESPN's Not Top Ten more often than they've been on ESPN's Top Ten Plays this year.
John Wall has been the only reason to watch the Wizards play this year. However, he can't do it alone, and after another down year in Washington, the draft is the route the Wizards will go in order to surround Wall with the talent they will need to get back to the playoffs.
The New Orleans Hornets, 15-42, own the third worst record in the league and are another team eyeing No. 1 pick. This is the team who I think will ultimately end up with top overall pick.
After trading Chris Paul, the NBA-owned Hornets knew that that this was going to be a rebuilding year, and will be hoping that they hold the No. 1 pick come June.
At 18-36, the Cleveland Cavaliers will look to work their magic again, as they did last year when they drafted Kyrie Irving with the No. 1 overall pick. The Cavs also won the number 4 overall pick last year.
The Cavs will once again have a top-five draft pick this year and should get another piece to build around Kyrie Irving as they slowly move on from LeBron James.
The Cavaliers have been better than some expected this season and, with additional talented players, should continue to improve next year.
The Sacramento Kings own the league's 5th best chance at winning the NBA lottery this year. They'll try to build around Tyreke Evans and Demarcus Cousins. And at 19-38, they should have a shot at winning the NBA lottery.
Teams are ultimately trying to get Anthony Davis because he is the type of player that teams can build around. He has received a lot of respect from around the league, and has been compared to the great Bill Russell, Tim Duncan and Kevin Garnett.
Whomever gets Davis, will be able to build around him for the future.
