NFL Rumors: Reviewing the 5 Most Ridiculous Whispers Around Free Agency
The NFL free-agency period is winding down as the 2012 draft approaches, but there is still plenty of time left for movement.
While there is still a chance for movement, there is still an opportunity for new rumors to pop up. Some of those rumors are well grounded in reality, while others are probably wishful thinking on the part of fans or the media.
Out of the many whispered rumors that are currently in circulation, which are the most ridiculous? Keep clicking to find out.
Bill Parcells to the New Orleans Saints
1 of 5The rumors of movement within the league haven’t been restricted only to players. With Sean Peyton suspended for the 2012 season, the New Orleans Saints have to come up with an interim solution to take over as a coach.
Rumor on the street has it that the Saints are interested in bringing in Bill Parcells for the job. They’re not the only ones pursuing Parcells, either; the Minnesota Vikings supposedly offered Parcells the equivalent of a blank check to come in and work his magic on their team.
If Bill Parcells is to be believed, this rumor won’t ever launch. He seems disinterested in returning to coaching, at least for now.
The Jets Will Air out Their Locker-Room Problems on HBO’s Hard Knocks
2 of 5It’s not a big secret that the New York Jets have a major attitude problem in their locker room.
That’s not the only problem the Jets face.
They also have 10 free agents that are still on the market, including running back LaDainian Tomlinson.
Add to that the quarterback controversy that is sure to explode over the next several months with the addition of Tim Tebow to the roster, and you have a drama fit for prime time.
It should come as no surprise, then, that the Jets are under consideration to make another appearance on HBO’s Hard Knocks.
What better way to unite a divided locker room than to air out all of their problems on television?
Fortunately for everyone involved, the Jets aren’t a sure thing yet. There are plenty of other teams that would be equally interesting and perhaps would handle the visibility a bit more gracefully.
Tim Tebow Will Start in New York
3 of 5Speaking of the potential quarterback controversy that the New York Jets might face…well, it’s already begun.
Champ Bailey, cornerback for the Denver Broncos, has gone on the record saying that Tim Tebow wants the starting QB job.
Of course, all of the drama may be for naught. The Jets also signed a three-year extension to Mark Sanchez’s contract, a pretty strong indicator that he’s still their go-to guy for the time being.
This could be just an example of a former teammate stirring up trouble, but it could also be a herald of more trouble to come in the Jets locker room.
Jerome Simpson to St. Louis Rams
4 of 5There’s a good possibility that wide receiver Jerome Simpson will be able to find a lucrative deal to sign when all of the dust settles from his recent jail sentence.
Rumors that he might end up in St. Louis, however, are a little bit premature.
The Rams still have two of their own free agents to take care of: Danny Amendola and Mark Clayton. Both are decent options at wide receiver who are much closer to home than a troublemaker who might face suspension time.
The Colts Aren’t 100-Percent Sold on Andrew Luck
5 of 5The first rumor is only tangentially related to free agency since the Indianapolis Colts decided to let Peyton Manning, one of the best quarterbacks ever to play the game, as well as several other free agents go in order to aggressively rebuild their team.
The Colts single-handedly flooded the league with talent—albeit talent that has certainly begun to show its age—with the general understanding that they would use their No. 1 pick in the upcoming draft to select Andrew Luck as their new quarterback.
Now, rumors have started to surface that the Colts aren’t sold on selecting Andrew Luck over Robert Griffin III.
After all of the hype that Luck has generated for the past year, it seems almost unbelievable that the Colts would use their coveted draft pick for anything else. Robert Griffin III has been a strong dark-horse candidate, but it seems unlikely that he will overtake Luck as the darling of the 2012 draft.
