Georgia Football: Power Ranking the Last 5 Recruiting Seasons

Brian JonesJun 7, 2018

Evaluating recruiting classes is like evaluating the NFL Draft—the best way to judge them is looking at what the players have done after three years with their team.

For Georgia, the last five recruiting classes have been ranked pretty high according to Rivals and Scout.

Some of the players in those classes have turned out great careers, some have been solid contributors and some did not have the career they desired and have moved on to greener pastures.

Here's my power rankings of the last five recruiting classes, but the one thing to keep in mind is the 2010 and 2011 classes still have opportunities to do big things, so this could change in a year.

No. 5: 2010

1 of 5

This was not a bad class, but when comparing to the other four classes, this one is not as strong.

The class of 2010 does feature starters Alec and Alexander Ogletree along with Michael Bennett and Garrison Smith.

But Brent Bendict transferred shortly after joining the team, Brandon Burrows has been injury-prone, Jakar Hamilton transferred and Dexter Morant quit (he's back on the team now).

But let's not forget about Hutson Mason who was the best quarterback in the the state of Georgia when he was recruited, but has seen little action on the field because of Aaron Murray.

No. 4: 2007

2 of 5

This class had Clint Boling, Justin Houston and Rennie Curran, so it had three great players that were the best in the conference at their position.

But this class had its share players that could not develop, such as Caleb King and Israel Troupe.

Jarius Wynn and Corvey Irvin did not have great careers at Georgia, but both are playing in the NFL, and Trinton Sturdivant had the makings of a great offensive lineman, but could never stay healthy.

No. 3: 2011

3 of 5

So far this class is coming together nicely.

It starts with Isaiah Crowell who had his share of issues last year, but still managed to win SEC Freshman of the Year.

Chris Conley was solid at wide receiver last season and Damian Swann and Corey Moore saw a lot of action on special teams.

Swann and Moore are expected to be big contributors this season on defense as well as Ray Drew.

On offense, Conley along with Justin Scott-Wesley and David Andrews are going to have bigger roles on offense.

But the standout player of this class has to be Malcolm Mitchell who exploded onto the scene at wide receiver and expected to do the same thing at cornerback this season.

No. 2: 2009

4 of 5

This was a very solid class and it starts with Aaron Murray who is on pace to break even more school records if he continues to improve as a quarterback.

The 2009 class also features Orson Charles, Branden Smith, Chase Vasser, Shawn Williams, Michael Gilliard, Dallas Lee and Abry Jones. All of these players are major contributors to the team right now or are moving on to the NFL.

However, this class also had Zach Mettenberger, who is now playing for LSU because he was kicked off the team for not so great behavior.

No. 1: 2008

5 of 5

This class is by far the best when it comes to producing SEC talent.

The top two in the class are A.J. Green and Richard Samuel. While Samuel is not a All-SEC player, he has done everything the coaching staff has asked of him and it paid dividends in the Florida game.

As for Green he was one of the best wide receivers in the country and was a first-round draft pick last year.

Other notable players to come out of this class are Bacarri Rambo, Brandon Boykin, Cornelius Washington, Blair Walsh, Christian Robinson and DeAngelo Tyson.
