Tim Tebow Trade Rumors: Reasons Why Tebow Won't End Up on the New York Jets

Sam R. QuinnJun 7, 2018

Let's get one thing out of the way right off the bat: Tim Tebow is not going to the New York Jets, despite what sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The main reason is that Mark Sanchez just got a five-year extension and isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

What kind of front office brings in a quarterback less than two weeks after signing your hopeful franchise quarterback to a new deal? A bad one.

Sanchez has been a bit of a disappointment thus far in his young career, but there's no need to bring in a big-name quarterback to back him up or to run the wildcat.

And I stress big name, not big talent.

Bringing Tebow in will wreak havoc on Sanchez's psyche. And he's not exactly steel-willed to being with. He's been picked apart by anonymous teammates and LaDainian Tomlinson called the feud with Santonio Holmes "as bad as I've ever been around."

Do Rex Ryan and Mike Tannenbaum really want to do another thing to mess with Sanchez's already dwindling confidence?

Think about it, if the Jets bring in Tebow and Sanchez has a few bad games, fans will be kicking and screaming for Tebowmania at MetLife Stadium.

It happened in Denver last season. The Broncos started off with Kyle Orton under center, went 1-3, shot themselves up with a nice dose of Tebow, then waived Orton.

Kicked him to the curb like he didn't throw for almost 3,700 yards just one season earlier.

The only thing that would be different in a similar situation with the Jets, is that Orton didn't sign a five-year extension before last season.

If Tebow comes to New York and Sanchez struggles so mightily that Rex Ryan makes the decision to bench him, he's not going anywhere. He's staying right on that bench as a subtle reminder of the previous failures and draft-day miscalculations of the Jets.

Another minor problem: Antonio Cromartie is at it again, running his mouth like it's his job.

Cromartie recently told reporters that the Jets "don't need Tebow."

For once, I agree with Cromartie, but it's not a good idea to be saying you don't need a guy who might wind up as your teammate.

Tebow is really just a glorified publicity stunt. Actually, it's not even glorified anymore.

That's why Miami wanted him. That's why Jacksonville still wants him. Because those teams don't put enough people in the seats.

The Jets don't need that kind of circus act to draw fans to the stadium. They're a team who plays in the most popular professional sports league in the world, in the biggest sports market in the world.

If GM Mike Tannenbaum likes his job, he'll stay away from Tim Tebow.
