Michigan Football Recruiting: Biggest Needs for Brady Hoke and the Wolverines

Wes ODonnellJun 7, 2018

Honestly, you don't need me to tell you what Brady Hoke and the Michigan Wolverines need in the 2013 recruiting class because Hoke and the Wolverines are already going out and getting exactly what they need.

Much like last year, when Hoke earned the commitment of nearly his entire top 10-ranked 2012 class before the month of July, the Michigan Man is working wonders yet again.

The Wolverines, who went 11-2 with a BCS bowl in 2011, have already earned the commitment of 16 recruits for the 2013 class.

A whopping 12 of those 14 recruits currently rank in the ESPNU 150 watch list.

Hoke isn't just rebuilding the Michigan brand that was destroyed by Rich Rodriguez, he's building a BCS Championship-caliber team.

Quarterback

Denard Robinson will be heading to the NFL in 2013 (position: to be determined), but the Wolverines hope they've already found his replacement.

Shane Morris, a 6'3", 190-pound Michigan native, has been committed since May of last year.

He's a solid athlete with enough quickness and agility to make plays with his legs, and continues to get better and better with his arm.

Hoke's offense has always been predicated around a quarterback who can actually throw, so it will be a treat for the head coach to get his hands on Morris before long.

Offensive Line

The Wolverines landed a nice offensive line haul in 2012, but they still need to account for the terrible work done by RichRod in the previous years.

That isn't lost on Hoke and his staff and Michigan has already earned the commitments of five ESPNU 150 linemen.

That group includes tackles Kyle Bosch, Chris Fox and Logan Tuley-Tillman and guards Patrick Kugler and David Dawson.

Linebacker

It is easy to dismiss the second tier in Ann Arbor after the haul the Wolverines made in 2012, but one thing is for certain in this day and age: You can never have too many linebackers.

Michigan knows this and that their defense was largely their reason for success last year, so they are out for quality in 2013.

They've already earned a commitment from ESPNU 150 Mike McCray II out of Ohio (although the Buckeyes have not yet offered him) and they're chasing down E.J. Levenberry Jr. and reportedly lead for Dorian O'Daniel as well.

They'll hope to land three linebackers and it wouldn't be shocking at all if it was these three.

They'll add one to two running backs and wide receivers as well, and possibly another cornerback throughout the process.

Many expect the Wolverines to stay in the low 20s with this recruiting class. With 16 commitments as early as mid-March, they are well on their way to one of the top classes in the country.
