NBA Rumors: Josh Smith and More NBA Stars Who Should Be on the Move

Andrew KulhaMar 15, 2012

Atlanta Hawks power forward Josh Smith wants to play for a new team, but it's highly doubtful that he'll get his wish any time soon.

He should be on the move right about now, but for all intents and purposes, it looks like he'll be staying with the Hawks.

ESPN reported yesterday that despite Smith being vocal about wanting a trade, the Hawks do not plan on trading him:

The Atlanta Hawks have no plans to deal Josh Smith before Thursday's deadline, according to their co-owner.

"The likelihood of us trading Josh at the trade deadline is as close to zero as you can get," Bruce Levenson told The Associated Press on Tuesday.

"There were a bunch of guys in the All-Star Game that I wouldn't trade for Josh, given what he brings not only to our team but to the community. He's from Atlanta. He's made terrific contributions to the community. It's really hard, particularly in the middle of the season, to find that caliber player for Josh."

The Hawks are absolutely ridiculous for not trading Smith. This is a player that averages 17.8 points, 9.6 rebounds and two blocks per game, and he's only 26 years old.

The Hawks could literally get a king's ransom in return for him, but instead they are choosing to hold on to a player that doesn't even want to be in the organization.

It doesn't make any sense. Smith should be on the move, but he isn't.

The funny thing is, he's not the only star that will be staying home at the NBA trade deadline:

Pau Gasol, Lakers

Gasol was actually "traded" earlier this year, but that was famously vetoed by the league. Ever since then, all we've been hearing out of the Lakers camp is that Gasol was taking the trade talk very hard.

That being said, he averages 16.6 points, 10.4 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game—just imagine what the Lakers could get for him if they could find a taker.

I have a hard time imagining nobody wants Gasol, yet unless something crazy happens, he will remain with the Lakers.

Marc Berman of the New York Post reported a rumor that suggested Carmelo Anthony was so fed up with the Knicks that he wanted to be traded before the deadline.

Anthony denied the rumor and that seems to be the end of it. However, one can't help but ponder those possibilities.

It's no secret that the Knicks played a whole lot better when Anthony wasn't in the lineup, and he could garner a whole lot of value in a trade situation.

I could see how trading Melo would be incredibly beneficial for the Knicks, and that is why he is on this list.

Don't expect it to happen, though, even though it should.
